“Matt and Zoltan were great. I love the hotels, the breakfasts and optional dinners. I did not get the 2 optional tours in Prague but I should have gotten the dinner dance since it was good according to those who went, otherwise all the optional tours we got were all worth it.”

“So many highlights. Our driver was amazing, finding back ways to cross the boarders during the busy end of school holiday period. The tour was great with so many amazing places. The standouts for me were Budapest, Prague, Slovenia, Dubrovnik, Split and Mostar. As a solo traveller, I find Expat fantastic and meet other solo travellers. This is my 5th tour with Expat and every time the group on the bus have been great fun and mixed well.”

Munich - Tour Highlights and Travel Tips

The unofficial “southern capital” is famous for several distinctly German symbols, such as the Oktoberfest, beer halls and lederhosen, which means a trip to Munich should be at the very top of your list if you ever plan on visiting Germany. Travelers who decide to spend their holidays in Munich will get to immerse themselves in this fast-evolving Bavarian metropolis which, despite the growing size and busy pace of life, managed to preserve its rustic medieval character.

Travel Highlights

  • Englischer Garten is a vast green area in the center of Munich that’s perfect for an afternoon stroll on sunny days. Alternatively, sit down in one of the laid-back beer gardens and acquaint yourself with local lager.
  • Marienplatz is a beautiful central square that servers as a meeting point for most Münchners. It is framed with several majestic buildings in Gothic style, including the New Town Hall (with the famous tourist attraction, the Glockenspiel) and the Old Town Hall.
  • Sitting atop of a steep hill southwest of Munich, the Neuschwanstein is an enchanting palace that even served as inspiration for several castles featured in Walt Disney’s animations.
  • Deutsches Museum is one of the world’s largest museums dedicated to science and technology. It hosts a vast collection of items belonging to various scientific fields, ranging from mining to agriculture to nano-technology.

Travel Tips

  • If you are a football fan, make sure to catch a game at the Allianz Arena, which is home to German’s most successful football club, Bayern München.
  • If you can, plan your visit to Munich in the summer months, when you are most likely to be greeted with sunshine and pleasant temperatures for sightseeing.
  • Even though the center of Munich is best explored on foot, the city also has an excellent public transport system that includes trams, underground trains (U-Bahn) and suburban trains (S-Bahn).
  • During your visit to Munich, make sure to try the traditional Bavarian breakfast, which consists of a Münchner Weisswurst (veal sausage) with sweet mustard, classic pretzel and a refreshing glass of wheat beer.
