Marine Wildlife of the Maldives

“We boarded our boat, Felicity, and set off almost straight away for a lovely trip around the islands of the Maldives. They say it is a romantic place and it is but it is also very suitable for any occasion for friends or even singles. There were 11 of us, 5 singles and 3 couples, mostly British. I would definitely recommend doing the Maldives on a boat, as you get to see different islands and you are not just stuck on one island. There are only 7 double cabins so 14 is maximum.”

“From day one you are part of the Felicity family. From being welcomed on board and shown your surprisingly comfy cabin, to the last breakfast on board, you are looked after and made to feel so welcome, you will not want to leave.Captain Shafy, Guide Kamey And all the crew work tirelessly to get you the best wildlife experiences. Their knowledge of the Maldives and all its creatures is endless and no doubt why you get to see, and experience, so much.”

The Maldives - Tour Highlights and Travel Tips

The Maldives is synonymous with tropical. Just hearing the country’s name is sure to make you think of colourful fish, blue lagoons, white beaches, and overwater bungalows set on stilts. If you’re looking for the clearest waters and most Instagram-worthy beaches on Earth, a trip to the Maldives is the answer. With a tourism slogan of “the sunny side of life”, it’s no wonder the Maldives and its 1,000+ islands are the exotic vacation of your dreams.

Tour Highlights

  • Eat a meal surrounded by coral reef at Ithaa Undersea Restaurant
  • Spend the night in a villa on stilts
  • See the Malé Hukuru Miskiy, an ancient mosque made entirely of white coral
  • Experience the Sea of Stars, the glowing beach of Vaadhoo Island
  • Scuba dive among the reefs
  • Take a cruise into the sunset
  • Interact with locals at Male, the world’s smallest capital city

Travel Tips

  • The Maldives is a 100% Muslim populated country, and there are several conservative laws that visitors must follow. When travelling off resort, do not wear your bathing suits or revealing clothing. Homosexuality, alcohol and public displays of affection are all illegal within the country, except on resort islands.
  • Seaplane flights from the Male airport to your resort island, though short in duration, can be very expensive. Be sure to research ahead and take the cost into consideration when creating your budget.
  • The drinking water in the Maldives is heavily treated, meaning it is stripped of its natural minerals. To keep your body properly hydrated, buy some rehydration salt packages from the pharmacy at the airport or your resort.
  • While snorkelling is common in many tropical destinations, the Maldives is one of the best destinations in the world for spotting large marine life. Be on the lookout for whale sharks, dolphins, Hammerhead sharks and sea turtles.
  • A holiday in the Maldives is perfect if you’re looking to disconnect from the rest of the world. But, if you simply can’t live without your Wi-Fi, be prepared to pay for it. Many resorts charge for internet access, and they can be quite expensive (up to US$150 per week!).

The Maldives has seasonal weather so please do check up on the best time to visit Maldives before planning your tour.
