It’s no wonder Denmark is continually being listed as one of the happiest countries in the world. Copenhagen is a cyclist’s dream, also offering walking tours to its visitors. To the East, Aarhus has a fascinating open-air museum dedicated to the country’s timbered houses, while the port city of Helsingør has many museums and even a castle just waiting to be explored.

Great trip!

“I had not heard of the company before so I was apprehensive about booking an international trip, but everything was seamless and easy. We saw all of the major highlights in each city, and transportation between countries was seamless. Our tour guides were knowledgeable and helpful, and everything was paced well.”

“I enjoyed this tour but, looking back at the itinerary, I think better use could have been made of the time. We spent three long days on the bus traveling from Bergen to Stockholm but had little to show for it, and a day driving from Stockholm to Copenhagen, with only a quick stop to take photos of the exterior of Kronborg Castle (with no time tour the castle). The day we traveled from Bergen to Lillehammer, we didn't arrive until 21:00 (11 PM), too late to do anything there. The next night, we arrived at the Dalarma-area hotel too late to see the town. The only noteworthy event in those three days was the optional stop at a viking village followed by the optional fjord cruise. The viking village wasn't a real village but was all new construction for tourists. An "open jaws" route, Stockholm to Bergen via Copenhagen, substituting two unneeded driving days with extended stays in two cities, would make better use of the time. And, this is an 11-day tour, not a 12-day tour. It started at dinner time check-in and ended with a breakfast on the last day. I would count those meals and one night's lodging (18 hours) as day 11, not two days.. The tour is still a good value and I will travel with Expat again.”

“Even though there was a lot of driving on this tour, I knew that before I chose it. The scenery was truly amazing. Great group on the bus and everyone kept to the schedule. Our tour leader was very knowledgeable and the local guides also knowledgeable and engaging.”

Travel Tips

  • Cycling is extremely popular in Denmark. Most Danes own a bicycle, and Copenhagen has been designed to be one of the most cycle-friendly cities in the world. Be sure to rent a bicycle for a true Danish experience.
  • As part of hygge, dinner time is a true celebration in Denmark. If dining with locals, be prepared for long mealtimes and wait for the host’s traditional toast of ‘skol’ before eating.
  • While Danes may seem very private at first, they are generally very friendly, welcoming and helpful. Don’t be afraid to strike up a conversation with the locals!
  • To make the most of your trip to Denmark, be sure to see what the country has to offer beyond its capital. Visit other Danish cities and explore its beautiful scenery.
  • If you find yourself in Denmark on a sunny day, head to the beach! With over 7,000km of coastline, Denmark has plenty of sandy beaches ready to be explored.

Denmark has seasonal weather so please do check up on best time to visit Denmark before planning your tour. And if you’re still hunting for more things to do and places to explore in Denmark, do check out our Denmark Travel Guide for more information.
