Superb and varied trip in beautiful mountains and historic cities

“This was our first trip to the Balkans and we were amazed how much we were able to see in just over a week. The country has recovered exceptionally well from a very tumultuous recent history, and we felt inspired by the warmth and enthusiasm of all the BiH people we met. The countryside is pristine, with absolutely no pollution, and the walking very varied and interesting. We all loved Sarejevo and Mostar, both fascinating and sophisticated cities.”

“I have done a few holidays through this tour operator in Europe and would actually say that in terms of the scenery and the history of the country it was among the best. Bosnia is not normally thought of as a holiday destination, but has lots to offer! Also not that many tourists either”

Bosnia and Herzegovina - Tour Highlights and Travel Tips

Needless to say, there is plenty to see in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The land of mountains, rivers, and forests is full of natural beauty, and a history that is heir to six civilizations. This is a land of historic, ethnic, and religious diversity. One can stand on a single street corner and see a mosque, a Roman Catholic church, and a Serbian Orthodox church simultaneously. From medieval villages to the Ottoman-Era bridge that served as the birthplace of the First World War, Bosnia and Herzegovina brings a world of history to the modern visitor.

Tour Highlights

  • Go river rafting on Neretva, the largest river in the eastern Adriatic basin.
  • Go swimming in a pool at the base of a picturesque Kravica waterfall.
  • Watch the diving competition from the Stari Most Bridge, or better yet, jump into the action yourself and take the plunge!
  • Take in a view of Ottoman architecture at the 16th century Bazi Husrev-bey Mosque.
  • Spend a day examining some of the 400,000 artifacts at The Historical Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
  • Take a break from the historic and take the kids to visit Pionirska Dolina, a zoo and recreation center with a playground and rides to entertain the young ones.

Travel Tips

  • If you are exploring lonely areas of the countryside, or wandering in mountainous areas off the trail, watch out for unexploded land mines. This area has a history of conflict, and some of the scars remain.
  • Make sure you keep your passport with you at all times when on a holiday in Bosnia and Herzegovina, you may be required to show identification and having it handy is always a good idea.
  • Bosnian’s smoke a lot. If second hand smoke is a problem for you, be advised.
  • Driving can be risky, guard rails are rare, and drunk driving is a real problem, so if you do drive, watch out.
