Beautiful desert
5 - Excellent
  • Bradley Blair
“Erg Chiggaga, serving as the gateway to the Erg Chebbi dunes, offers a truly beautiful and unique experience for travelers. I highly recommend staying at the Erg Chiggaga Activities Camp, which is conveniently located very close to the dunes. The camp provides a personalized and pleasant atmosphere at a very reasonable price. The accommodations are clean, and both breakfast and dinner are delicious. The staff is incredibly helpful and friendly, ensuring a welcoming experience for guests. In the evenings, they even offer music by the fire, adding to the overall ambiance. The camp can arrange various activities, including a sunset camel trip and a half-day jeep excursion around the area, making it a great choice for those looking to explore and enjoy the desert.”

“The vistas are truly breathtaking, offering a tranquil and serene atmosphere with fantastic, vivid colors. We also enjoyed a camel trek, which added a sense of fun and adventure to the experience.”

“Our Morocco trip was fantastic! Yassine, our guide, is really smart, an excellent driver, and a kind person! Dinner at Siad's home in Fez was a highlight. His two sons were great, playing guitar and singing for us. We loved staying in the riads. Riad Salam Fes is beautiful, and the hammam experience was amazing. Palais Sebban was even more beautiful. Our New Year's Eve celebration there was so much fun and unforgettable. The camel ride into the desert at sunset and the night at Tiziri Luxury Eco Camp was everything we hoped for. We wish we had stayed two nights there. Thanks to the this travel operator and its amazing team for organizing such a wonderful and meaningful trip for our family.”

Travel Highlights

  • Morocco has two popular dune systems - Erg Chebbi and Erg Chigaga. Erg Chebbi is well-traveled and developed, while Erg Chigaga is known for its wild vista and peaceful ambiance
  • The entry point of Erg Chebbi is the village of Merzouga from where one can do the most popular Moroccan Sahara activity of camel trekking amidst the towering dunes of Erg Chebbi.
  • Erg Chigaga provides an off-the-beaten-track experience. Book a 4x4 jeep safari to reach the dune fields of Erg Chigaga.
  • Stargazing under the desert night sky comes highly recommended due to the profusion of twinkling stars in an exceptionally clear sky with no light pollution.

Travel Tips

  • Be prepared for a long driving time (at least 8-10 hours) when accessing the Moroccan Sahara, whether it is Erg Chebbi or Erg Chigaga.
  • The journey to the desert itself is a travel experience like no other, with ancient kasbahs, enchanting oases, and lush palmeries dotting the way.
  • The desert temperature always fluctuates, so dress in layers and carry warm clothes for chilly desert nights.
  • Sahara gets unbearably hot between the summer months of June to September, so it is best avoided.
