Valparaiso Tour Reviews

One of the best Tours. Highly Recommended!

  • Rexon Smith
“My wife and I were picked up at our hotel in Santiago promptly. After collecting 6 other people, we were first taken to a winery where we given the option to join a wine tasting session (my wife and I opted out). Then on we went around Via del Mar making several stops along the way for photo ops. We were then taken to a wonderful restaurant in Valparaiso with great view and excellent food. After lunch, we were taken on a walking tour of the streets of Valparaiso with its vibrant street art. Our guides Vanessa and Patrick were excellent. The tour felt felt very casual and un-rushed (in fact I'm pretty sure we exceed the number of hours stated in the tour promo). Unlike other tours where schedules are quite rigid and by the numbers, this tour felt more like a day out with friends showing you around. Vanessa made us feel at ease and relaxed from the get go and made sure everyone was enjoying the tour. Overall, this was one of the best tours we've had -- thanks to our guides. Highly recommend.”
This tour is definitely worthwhile

“We enjoyed it tremendously. Having Frank as our tour guide and our competent driver made this tour a success. Frank was the ideal tour guide, friendly, well informed, full of fun and a very helpful tour guide. I would recommend this tour for any aspiring traveler to Santiago.”
Great day trip to Valparaiso

“Vanessa, our guide, and the driver really made the trip. Vanessa had such a great personality and attitude and put out positive vibes. Valparaiso, of course, is a quirky/cool place and fun to explore. Via del Mar is right next to it and yet so different; the contrast was interesting to see. And of course it is always a good time to have some wine! The winery we went to was in a beautiful location and it was nice to relax while drinking. Lunch in a castle was cool with a lovely view as well, the food was not cheap but delicious so worth what you pay for sure!”

Valparaiso Tour Highlights and Travel Tips

The heart and soul of Chile and a welcome relief from the chaos of Santiago, Valparaiso is the beachside city we all dream of. There’s plenty here to keep you occupied during both the day and night but it never makes you feel overwhelmed. A tour to Valparaiso captures Chile at its best with its bright and colourful buildings and eclectic array of dining options. It is impossible not to fall in love with this place.

Tour Highlights

  • Visit La Sebastiana, Pablo Neruda’s old house and spend some time admiring the quirky décor as you discover what inspired the Nobel prize-winning poet.
  • No trip to Valparaiso is complete without wandering through Cerro Alegro and Cerro Concepción and checking out the cool street art.
  • Go sandboarding at the giant sand dunes in Concon or just climb up them and admire the views of the sea from the top.
  • Treat yourself to an empanada or two from one of the many street vendors or little empanada bakeries – it shouldn’t set you back more than about 1,000 pesos ($1.50)
  • Go to the ex-carcel – a prison that has now been converted into a cultural centre. They always have performances and exhibitions going on.

Travel Tips

  • Valparaiso is easy to cover by foot but if you need go a bit further afield, hop on a micro (bus) as they are incredibly cheap and run like clockwork.
  • Don’t miss out on chorrillana – the ultimate Chilean carnivore meal consisting of meat, chips, eggs and caramelised onions.
  • Even if you know a bit of Spanish you probably won’t have ever heard it spoken like a Chilean. The accent is tough to understand and they use a lot of slang so don’t be put off if you have no idea what anyone is saying at first.
  • A holiday in Valparaiso is generally pretty safe but take care when walking around alone at night and don’t flash your valuables.
  • If you are on a budget, consider eating in picadas (small, cheap local restaurants).
  • Tipping is generally expected and the usual amount is about 10%. You should also tip the people who bag your groceries.
  • Valparaiso is a tsunami zone so make yourself aware of the nearest evacuation route from your accommodation. They are rare but its always better safe than sorry.
