Three Wonderful Contrasting Countries - A Must Visit
5 - Excellent
  • Anonymous
“A trip of wonderful contrasts visiting three countries which having only recently gained independence from Russia should on paper be similar. Uzbekistan with its history, culture, beautiful madrassahs and mozques, and security; Kazakhstan with the flat steppe that disappears into the horizon covering 25% of the country (this is probably the size of Germany!) (admittedly we only saw the steppe and of that only a minute part); Kyrgyzstan with its mountains and lakes (75% is mountains). The two overnight and one daytime train journeys really added to the overall interest of the tour. Felt very safe everywhere and had excellent food and guides.”
a trip along the silk road

“This was a busy trip through three very contrasting countries. Almost a surfeit of historical monuments in Uzbekistan, just a glimpse of Kazakhstan and then the natural beauty of Kyrgyzstan. Some long bus drives but with plenty of "photo stops" and the drives are a great way to appreciate the scenery and see a little of local life along the way. The food was fine, and it was fairly easy to avoid meat, with plenty of delicious salads and pumpkin manti (a type of dumpling) usually available. Also some lovely soups, but often with unexpected chunks of lamb or beef. I did also enjoy the plov and the kebabs, as well as the fresh bread. The people were mostly friendly, welcoming and curious - we encountered no problems.”
In the footsteps of Tamerlane
4 - Very Good

“This is a full on trip across three countries and at times travelling through mountainous areas on fairly rough roads. As a result this isn't the holiday to take if your looking for relaxation but the pay off is an amazing contrast of stunning ancient buildings, breathtaking scenery and mixing with people who have had limited contact with western europeans. At times we were being photographed as much as the locals! The tour really does take you back through the centuries to the time of Tamerlane and even earlier. The soviet restoration of some sites has been done incredibly well and we felt welcome in all of the mosques and mausoleums we visited”
