Uganda Tour Reviews

Fabulous wildlife adventure
5 - Excellent

“A wonderful exposure to wildlife in Uganda and Africa. The highlights are definitely close encounters with gorillas and chimps, but we also saw lions, leopards, zebra, antelope, Impala, hippos galore, Buffalo, etc. At times long drives over bad roads that I was glad our guides were having to worry about but definitely worth it. Food reasonable, often very good with great soups, although packed lunches were often not great but u are hungry so who cares. Hotel standards below western standards, often power and charging ability is limited, and getting a warm clean shower is often but not always available, but the location of most lodges and access to wildlife is what u came for. Come with a good attitude and the friendly people of Uganda will help u realize how lucky u are to share their beautiful country!”
Rewarding Wildlife

“Whilst the focus of this trip was chimps and gorillas, Uganda rewarded us with a wide variety of mammals and bird life and in contrasting landscapes; forests, savannahs and volcanic craters.”
Gorilla and Chimp Trek

“First time I have used the tour operator and will certainly be using them again. Well organised and action packed. Good condition of transportation vehicles and the guides were simply superb and couldn't do enough for you. The Gorilla and Chimp Trek not only exceeded my expectations, but also the other 13 travellers we met on the same tour. Couldn't fault it. Well done, operator !!”

Uganda - Tour Highlights and Travel Tips

Uganda was given the title of 'Pearl of Africa' by Winston Churchill for the simple reason that it presents some of the most unique sights in the African continent, despite its relatively small size. A nature lover’s paradise, Uganda is particularly famous as home to Lake Victoria, the largest tropical lake on the planet. The African Great Lakes also ensure the presence of all kinds of landscapes and wildlife and Mount Elgon affording those on a trip to Uganda views to die for.

The country has managed to emerge from the dark and transformed into one of the most beautiful countries of Africa. It still gets a rap for its anti-gay sentiments, but the country is still among the safest travel destinations in the continent.

Tour Highlights

  • Look for gorillas in Bwindi National Park
  • Straddle the equator in Kayabwe
  • Go white water rafting on the White Nile
  • Experience the breathtaking rapids of Bujagali Falls
  • Go chimpanzee trekking in Kibale National Park
  • Canoe from island to island across Lake Bunyonyi

Travel Tips

  • Be prepared to pay for your entry tourist visa to Uganda, which costs about USD 50. The visa can be paid upon entering the country, or online before you travel.
  • The term “mzungu” means ‘white person’, and any white-skinned visitors to Uganda should expect to hear this called out to them regularly as they roam the streets. This is not necessarily a sign of disrespect, and should be embraced!
  • Uganda is a fairly conservative country. Avoid touching members of the opposite sex in public, and women should dress modestly when holidaying in Uganda. This is especially true in busy cities.
  • Be sure to ask your doctor for malaria tablets before travelling to Uganda to avoid being exposed to the mosquito-borne disease.
  • The use of credit cards is limited in Uganda. If you’re lucky enough to find a shop that allows card payment, expect to pay a fee of around 5%. Be sure to always carry some cash, US dollars being the currency of choice.

Uganda has seasonal weather so please do check up on the best time to visit Uganda before planning your tour. And if you’re still hunting for more things to do and places to explore in Uganda, do check out our Uganda Travel Guide for more information.
