About

Hello! I live in Reykjavik, where I work for the Icelandic tour operator Erlingsson Naturreisen, which has been organizing group and individual structured self-drive trips for almost 40 years. As a half Icelander, I know the country and the people very well. But, I grew up in Germany and I first discovered Iceland as a traveller myself. I love the beautiful nature and the vast expanse of Iceland, which makes it a pleasure to put together the perfect journey for you.

In my free time, I sing in a church choir. We often sing in rural country churches as well. In Reykjavik, there is also a very vivid scene for yoga, Shamanic drum sessions and cacao ceremonies, all of which I love to participate in.

I look forward to helping you learn more about the Iceland I love!

Emma's Travel Expertise

I am passionate about going for long walks in the beautiful Icelandic natural environment and exploring new places. It is amazing to travel around Iceland; the places look always different depending on the weather, which is changing constantly. I specialise in, and often visit, the southern highlands such as Landmannalaugar, Þórsmörk and Kaldidalur. Also, Snæfellsnes peninsula is an all-time favorite of mine! My most beloved place is the little town Vopnafjörður in the east fjords, where I visit my aunt for several days each year.

Emma's best travel experience

One memorable excursion for me is one particular time my mother and I went hiking in the Þórmörk valley in the southern highlands. As we hiked, the path became more and more adventurous until eventually there were passages where it became really difficult to even move because it was so steep on both sides! Then, we had to hurry back to catch our bus back to Reykjavik and quickly went downhill through a tiny birch forest. After a lot of running and effort, we made it back in time to catch the bus. I will never forget the adrenaline and excitement this hike gave us. But yet these kinds of adventures happen all the time in Iceland -- you always meet the mighty elements of nature!

Why is Emma the right travel expert

I am very dedicated when I customise trips for travellers. I have local knowledge about the best places to visit and where to stay. It is much better to get recommendations and a detailed itinerary from a local agent (like me!) who knows the country well and is reachable 24/7, rather than from a tour operator in a remote location. Iceland can be very unpredictable – something I am very familiar with – and as a traveller, you should always have a reliable local person who will care for you during your stay.
