I've spent most of my life in central Scotland and have lived in Edinburgh, Glasgow and Stirling, as well as in England and America for university, where I studied English and creative writing. I'm working my way through visiting every distillery in Scotland but with more and more opening up the list gets longer and longer!
I've also traveled extensively in North America, Southeast Asia, South America and Europe. I love to explore news places, meet locals and try as much food and drink as possible! I've tried "happy water" in Sapa, Vietnam, eaten fried maggots wrapped in pancakes, tried Pisco sours and cactus sours in Peru and sipped hot quinoa drinks before hiking in Colca Canyon. I love homely accommodation, incredible food and drinks and learning as much as possible from the locals in each new place I visit!
Clare's Travel Expertise
I can create itineraries traveling across the whole of Scotland. I have special interest in whisky, gin and beer tours and love to recommend the best places to stay overnight and eat when touring Scotland. I like to get to know travelers and their interests to ensure we pair them up with the perfect guide for their time exploring Scotland.
Clare's best travel experience
One memorable travel experience I had was seeing northern Vietnam from the back of a motorbike, meeting the locals and trying many many interesting new foods. Having very many shots of "happy water" and being at least 50% full of Vietnamese coffee by the end of the trip! Vietnam is incredibly beautiful and full of friendly people who want you to have the best time possible. This is the kind of experience I want people who visit to Scotland to have.
Why is Clare the right travel expert
I've travelled extensively across the world so have a lot of "touring" experiences. I also work with a great team of Scotland experts. However, I think the best way to describe myself as a travel expert is to quote a happy customer who I organized multiple tours for in 2018:
"My experience with Clare started in March 2017 when I was planning my holiday to Scotland. I had a long list of places and experiences I wanted to do. Clare gave me several options of pre-planned tours and then suggested a combination of private drivers and pre-planned tours to accommodate our time in Scotland and our budget. Additionally, Clare took care of making appointments and coordinating payment at the two distilleries we visited and booked our tickets for us on the Jacobite Steam Train. Clare was instrumental in helping me select our lodging in the cities we were staying. She provided excellent advice on hotels and bed and breakfasts where we were staying and provided us with popular activities, restaurant suggestions and pub suggestions for the evenings when we were on our own. Clare made sure that the drivers had our tickets for all of our activities ahead of time. Additionally, she was so kind and patient with me and my never-ending questions leading up to my trip. Clare took great care to match me and my group with drivers who were extremely knowledgeable in the history and fun facts about the areas we were visiting. This holiday would not have been half as amazing as it was without the help of Clare."
