If you are looking for an unforgettable vacation, then Halloween in Transylvania is your answer. Discover the best highlights related to the infamous Count Dracula and be part of lively parties attended by travelers from throughout the world.

One of the most famous Halloween parties in the country takes place in Sighisoara's medieval citadel, inside a dungeon of a medieval hotel. Guests are welcomed with a strong Romanian drink, tuica, also known as the 'water of fire'. The party includes a buffet meal and a special program. Two magicians perform fantastic tricks and then a professional ballet troupe enacts a special choreography titled 'Vampiresa Hunting'. To top it all off, the highlight of the evening is the ritual of killing of the living dead, performed according to old customs and traditions.

In addition to the party in Sighisoara, tourists can also attend the popular Halloween party at Bran Castle (also known as Dracula's Castle). The schedule includes a unique night tour of the castle followed by a fun party in a tent mounted in the castle courtyard.

How many days do you need to spend in Transylvania?

The answer to this question depends on a wide variety of factors, ranging from your own schedule to what you intend to achieve from your holiday. If your purpose is to attend a fun Halloween party, two days are more than enough. Alternatively, you can have more fun with a three-day trip in Transylvania, during which you can attend two amazing parties.

If you intend to explore Romania and discover its highlights, a seven-day Romania tour is for you. One week is enough to cover all the must-see destinations like Sighisoara Citadel, Bran Castle, Poienari Fortress, Targoviste Royal Court and Turda Salt Mine. Want to add a hiking trip to the Bucegi Mountains in your Romania itinerary? Be ready to spend around two weeks in the country.

Recommended Transylvanian Cities to Visit

Transylvania is home to several remarkable tourist attractions. Here, you can either follow in the footsteps of Dracula or you can choose an itinerary focused on revealing this area's cultural highlights. Explore Cluj-Napoca and admire the blend between emerging modern architecture and old buildings. One of the best highlights in Cluj is Saint Michael's Cathedral, located in the centre of the city. Meanwhile, the medieval Saxon city of Sibiu includes a plethora of attractions such as its two historical squares, as well as the popular Bridge of Lies. According to a legend, the bridge will collapse if you tell a lie while crossing it. Try it out if you dare!

Brasov, located at the base of Tampa Mountain, is one of the most popular cities in Transylvania. Take a cable car to admire the city and its surrounding areas from above and do not miss out on a trip to Black Church when you are in the city. The edifice got its nickname after its walls were charred by a fire.

Other attractions around Brasov include Rasnov Fortress and Poiana Brasov, the latter being one of Romania's most popular mountain resorts. The iconic Bran Castle is just 30 minutes from the city.

Cultural and Historical Highlights in Transylvania

Peles Castle in Romania
Peles Castle was the first European castle to have electricity. It even has its own power plant. How cool is that!
Bran Castle during winter in Translyvania
Bran Castle is known as Dracula's Castle because it aptly fits the description of Bram Stoker's Dracula’s Castle.

In addition to their Dracula-related attractions, Halloween tours include a series of important cultural and historical places as well. One of these is the medieval Saxon city of Sibiu, which we have already mentioned above. This amazing city is associated with a section of Romania's German community and includes a large number of tourist attractions waiting to be discovered.

Halloween tours in Transylvania also include Corvinestilor Castle, an impressive, Gothic-style edifice located near Hunedoara. The castle was renovated by a medieval ruler named Iancu de Hunedoara, who also used it as his residence. Another very popular attraction that is not related to Dracula is Turda Salt Mine. This unique place was used to extract salt in medieval times, but its importance faded since then. The mine has now been renovated and transformed in an impressive tourist destination.

Quite a few Halloween tours also take you to Pelisor Castle, part of the larger Peles Castle complex, used in the past by a royal family as their summer residence.

All in all, Halloween is a great period for tourists to be in Transylvania. What better way to discover the dark legends surrounding Dracula than at their source? With lively parties and a festive atmosphere drawing travelers from all over the world, Halloween tours are a truly unforgettable experience!
