Jordan has extremely hot summers and bitterly cold winters. However, the climate and weather can vary dramatically around the country, depending on altitude and location.
February is winter in Jordan and the weather can be very chilly with biting winds, rain showers, and even snowfall. But the sun always seems to make an appearance. The climate in the south is more temperate and draws visitors to destinations like Aqaba, where they can enjoy Petra sightseeing or indulge in snorkeling or scuba diving in the Red Sea.

February in Jordan is wintertime, and don’t be fooled into thinking just because this country lies in the Middle East, winters will be mild because February can be very cold. The beginning of this month sees temperatures in Amman averaging around 10°C, sometimes colder due to the wind factor. Days are short and nights are freezing, so pack plenty of warm clothes if you plan on exploring the northern parts of the country or frosty mountain areas.
If you want some warmer weather, head south to Wadi Rum, and Aqaba where it is decidedly milder. Temperatures are a balmy 21°C or nearabouts during this month and February is a great time to explore the Dead Sea and Jordan Valley. You can stay in a traditional Bedouin camp in the heart of the desert and get a glimpse of the traditional way of life of these gentle people that call the Eastern Desert their home.
Join a camel caravan on the King's Highway, which is lined with ancient Roman ruins, castles from the Crusades period such as Karak and Shobak, and historic sites of biblical import. Head into the spectacular Dana Nature Reserve to do some hiking and see some of the country’s endemic animals like the honey badger, desert gazelle, or Nubian Ibex.
After touring the past, head into the present with a visit to the capital of Amman which has some amazing modern art galleries, museums, and a buzzing nightlife scene. Don’t miss out on a trip to the Aqaba Archaeological Museum, the awe-inspiring Sherif al-Hussein bin Ali Mosque, and the Mamluk Castle.
Head to the laid-back market town of Madaba, just 30 kilometers to the southwest of Amman, to marvel at some of the world’s most beautifully preserved Byzantine-era mosaics, including the magnificent mosaic map of the Holy Land dating back to the sixth century laid on the floor of St George’s Church.
Save the south for last and head down to Aqaba and the Red Sea for long, lazy days on the beaches and enjoying world-class snorkeling and scuba diving in the warm, gin-clear waters.
