Pakistan is a frequently misunderstood country. It has gone through its own periods of turmoil, but tourism in the country has been picking up steadily over the past few years. Pakistan is home to one of the oldest civilizations in the world and has some of the finest Islamic architecture, and stunning mountain views. All you have to do is find out when to travel to Pakistan and you’re good to go.

Quick Facts

  • High season: May - October
  • Low season: November - April
  • All seasons: May - October (summer), November - April (winter)
  • The best time to visit Pakistan depends on where you wish to travel. May - October is generally the best season to visit, as the weather is rather dry and warm throughout the country.
  • If you want to visit the north-west regions of Pakistan, like Pakhtoonkhwa, Sindh, Punjab, or Balochistan, October - February would be a good time to travel, as the weather will be cool enough for you to enjoy your trip.

Pakistan has a number of things to offer to even the weariest of travelers. It is the cradle of civilization - most of the oldest sites of the Indus Valley Civilization lie to the south of the country. The great mountains of the northwest frontier province offer mountain views that will steal your breath away. You only need to figure out when to visit Pakistan, which depends on what exactly you want to see.

May to October is generally considered the best time to travel to Pakistan, as there is little to no snow in the entire country, and the summer holidays make the country rather lively. This is the best time to travel to the northern reaches of the country, where the beautiful valleys and stunning peaks lie. This is peak trekking season as well, as the area faces little to no snow rainfall at this point.

November to April is also a good time to travel in Pakistan, as long as you go to the right places. This is the best time to visit Pakistan if you want to travel to Punjab, Baluchistan, or Sindh. These are the areas where the summer weather can be unbearable. The winter weather will be pleasant. However, if you want to visit the mountains, this might not be the best time, as you might get snowed in.

Seasonal Overview

1. March to October — Summer / High Season

In Pakistan's northern regions, where there is little rainfall, the summer will be hot and dry.

The weather in Pakistan would be different, depending on where you are. The summer will be hot and dry in the northern regions, which do not experience a lot of rainfall. July is the warmest month in the country, and there might be hot ‘loo’ winds around the country. July and August also see the highest levels of rainfall, so the weather in Pakistan will get really humid. It’s slightly cooler in the coastal areas, where the ocean breeze blows in the evenings, bringing the temperature back to normal.

  • Avg. Temperature: 48 – 100° F / 9 – 38° C (in Islamabad)
  • Rainfall: 20 – 100 mm
  • Season: Summer
  • Highlights: This is when to visit Pakistan if you are a fan of trekking. The weather is dry enough, and the passes are open due to the lack of snow. Naltar Valley, Gojal Valley, Ayun, and Bamburet Valley are all stunning during this period. This is an amazing time to visit the beaches in Islamabad, Lahore, or Gilgit - Baltistan, as the beautiful sea breeze will give you some respite from the warm sun. Ramadan is celebrated in Pakistan from May - June, and for that entire month, you should expect some restrictions on your travel, as food and drinks will be limited.

2. November to April — Winter / Good Season

Winters can be really severe in this country. The weather in Pakistan brings the temperature down in the mountains, as well as the plains. Even cities like Islamabad and Peshawar get frost, and the northern parts of the country get heavy rainfall. If you’re traveling along the Indus basin, you can expect light winter showers, especially in November - December. However, the climate is generally dry and cold.

  • Avg. Temperature: 37 – 77° F / 3 – 25° C (in Islamabad)
  • Rainfall: 10 – 40 mm
  • Season: Winter
  • Highlights: This is the best time to visit Pakistan for a trip to the major urban centers. Areas like Baluchistan, Punjab, and Sindh have better weather during the winter than in the summer (as the summer temperatures can be unbearable, especially without air conditioning). Karachi, Lahore, Peshawar, and Islamabad all have lively parties and are a lot of fun to visit. Many parts of the northern mountains might be closed due to snowfall, but you can try to visit Hunza, Gilgit, Abbottabad, and Quetta, which are stunning in the winter months, especially if they get a little snow!
