Step out of the hustle and bustle of cities, and take a quick detour to the colourful seaside town of Isla Negra and the artisan town of Pomaire.

If you’re a poetry lover, the highlight of Isla Negra is the house museum of Nobel Prize in Poetry winner Pablo Neruda. Neruda built his house overlooking the Pacific Ocean in search of inspiration in this quiet coastal town. He constructed the building to resemble the interior of a ship, filled with seashells, mementos and treasures from the sea. Gain fascinating insight into Neruda’s eccentric life and works with a tour of his house museum.

Then head to Pomaire, known for its interesting clay pottery and handicrafts. It is a wonderful place to visit, especially for the artistically inclined travellers. The natural clay deposits nearby Pomaire turned it into an artisan hotspot and in turns causing the pottery industry to boom here.

Pomaire’s iconic pottery symbol? A reddish clay pig often found in homes and restaurants. Pomaire is also known for being the home of the largest empanadas in Chile! This is a great and relaxing day out of the city.

“Sean is an excellent tour guide that is a US expat that has lived in Chile for a long time. He is extremely knowledgeable about Chile and provided us with a lot of interesting information about the area. Because this is a private tour, Sean was able to adjust the itinerary to provide more time in the areas where were were most interested. The tour of Neruda's house in Isla Negra was excellent, and the small town of Pomaire which produces a lot of pottery was interesting to explore. Sean also gave us an recommendation for a very good local Chilean restaurant in Pomaire, where we had a very tasty lunch. We highly recommend this tour to anyone who is visiting Santiago, and will definitely contact Sean again in the future for other tours of the area when we return.”
