Santiago, Chile’s capital and largest city, is home to half of the country’s population. On this walking tour you will see all the important sites and landmarks in the downtown area.

We begin the tour at your hotel and first bring you to the top of San Cristobal Hill by cable car or “teleférico”. From here you will have a panoramic view of the entire city where your guide will describe the city’s geography and point out the sites to be seen during the tour.

We will descend the hill by an open-air funicular that will bring you right into the colorful Bellavista neighborhood with streets lined with lively cafes. From there we walk by Plaza Italia and stroll through beautiful Florestal Park to reach the Lastarria neighborhood with many tiny shops and cafés.

We will then visit Santa Lucia Hill, an oasis in the center of the city. Originally named Huelén Hill by the Mapuche Indians, this is where Pedro de Valdivia founded the city in 1541.

We continue to the historic city center visiting the Museum of Fine Arts (closed on Monday), Central Market, and Plaza de Armas, Santiago’s main square. At the plaza, you will see the Cathedral, City Hall, Historic Post Office, and Monument to Chile’s Indigenous People, as well as enter the Museum of National History (closed on Monday). We then pass by the Old Congress Building and Supreme Court and continue onward to La Moneda Palace (The Government House).

Afterwards, we will stop by the oldest church in Chile, the San Francisco Church, and visit a handicraft market for souvenir shopping. At the end of the tour, your guide will take you back to your hotel using the city’s modern Metro system for a real local experience.

“We had a very good day out in the Maipo Valley visiting a couple of terrific wineries with Sean from Chile Dream Tours. The Santa Rita and Concha y Torro Vineyards are beautiful properties with excellent wines. Tastings were great. Lunch was at a little community based restaurant between the two wineries and was of excellent quality. Sean is a very good host and the late model vehicle was very comfortable. A top day!”

“Sean is an excellent tour guide that is a US expat that has lived in Chile for a long time. He is extremely knowledgeable about Chile and provided us with a lot of interesting information about the area. Because this is a private tour, Sean was able to adjust the itinerary to provide more time in the areas where were were most interested. The tour of Neruda's house in Isla Negra was excellent, and the small town of Pomaire which produces a lot of pottery was interesting to explore. Sean also gave us an recommendation for a very good local Chilean restaurant in Pomaire, where we had a very tasty lunch. We highly recommend this tour to anyone who is visiting Santiago, and will definitely contact Sean again in the future for other tours of the area when we return.”

“Our 8 day visit to Chile included two highlights on THIS tour. Sean took us about an hour or so outside of Santiago to Quintessence Criadero and Boutique. We had an "up close and personal" experience with this Alpaca farm and business. Sean's own enthusiastic interest in these animals was reflected in his translations of the tour guide's information. This is not only a tour for animal lover's but for Textile lovers. The story of the evolution of this farm and business is delightful. Knitters: Baby Alpaca Yarn is available for purchase! We also went to the coast for a terrific lunch by the sea and then PENGUINS. Near the town of Cachagua , Chile, we hiked on a stone pathway on Zapallar Beach to a point to view the Humbolt ()Penguins . The Island where they reside is a protected area. Sean had binoculars available for up-close viewing, too. Sean's generosity with his enthusiasm and knowledge made this a 5 star tour.”
