Chile has a wine culture dating back to the Spanish conquest, but its wineries have just proliferated since the past century. Chile’s unique countryside nestled between the mountains and the coastline makes for a unique in-between of French and Californian wine. On this guided tour, come visit the innovative new vineyards in the Casablanca Valley with us!

Casablanca is Chile’s youngest wine region. Winemakers just began planting vines a few decades ago in the 1980s. Because of its warm days and cool evenings due to the coastal air, this valley produces first-class crisp wines.

First stop: Attilio & Mochi Vineyard, a small boutique winery where you will enjoy a personalized tour with the owners followed by a tasting of their premium wines. We are then off to the second vineyard, Matetic, in the Rosario Valley.

After the wine tasting, we continue to Pomaire, known for its interesting clay pottery and other handicrafts. Pomaire is a wonderful place to visit. This town became an artisan hotspot because of natural clay deposits in the nearby land, causing the pottery industry to boom here. Pomaire is also known for being the home of the largest “empanadas” in Chile! This is a wonderful, relaxing day out of the city.

“We spent a week in Chile and took various tours (of the city, the beach, and the countryside), and this was by far the BEST of all the tours we took. Our tour guide, Sean, has been living in Chile for over 25+ years, and was a wealth of knowledge. We started off our day with a scenic drive through the countryside, and our first stop was Paidahuen. This is an archeological park with incredible views of the Andes. We went on a short hike (about 1 hour round trip), Sean had walking sticks and water for us, and we went at our own pace so we were able to take lots of pictures and soak in the incredible views. Unlike other tour groups, we did not feel rushed, and we were given the freedom to explore on our own. After the hike, we got a private tour of the In Situ winery at the base of the hill. Maria, the general manager of the vineyard, gave us a tour of the grape fields and barrel storage, and even took us behind the scenes to see the manufacturing process, even their bottle labeling process. This was a very complete winery tour, unlike some of the other wine tours we had taken in other areas. After the tour we had a wine tasting of 4 different wines complete with cheese platter. Then we drove about another 45 minutes to the Chilean/Argentinean border to an amazing local restaurant right at the foot of the Andes, with delicious local food, incredible views, and we even saw llamas and alpacas roaming in the back lawn of the restaurant. Our final stop was an alpaca farm in Llai Llai, which is the largest exporter of alpacas in the world. We got the chance to pet and feed the baby llamas, some as young as just a few days, this was by far the highlight of the trip! We also got a private tour of the yarn and clothing manufacturing operation, which was very educational. It was a full day but we loved every minute of it, and we couldn't have asked for a better tour guide than Sean.”

“Sean is an excellent tour guide that is a US expat that has lived in Chile for a long time. He is extremely knowledgeable about Chile and provided us with a lot of interesting information about the area. Because this is a private tour, Sean was able to adjust the itinerary to provide more time in the areas where were were most interested. The tour of Neruda's house in Isla Negra was excellent, and the small town of Pomaire which produces a lot of pottery was interesting to explore. Sean also gave us an recommendation for a very good local Chilean restaurant in Pomaire, where we had a very tasty lunch. We highly recommend this tour to anyone who is visiting Santiago, and will definitely contact Sean again in the future for other tours of the area when we return.”

“We had a very good day out in the Maipo Valley visiting a couple of terrific wineries with Sean from Chile Dream Tours. The Santa Rita and Concha y Torro Vineyards are beautiful properties with excellent wines. Tastings were great. Lunch was at a little community based restaurant between the two wineries and was of excellent quality. Sean is a very good host and the late model vehicle was very comfortable. A top day!”
