This tour will take us to the highest of the Andes by the international road to Argentina. The route gives us a postcard view of the most imposing and beautiful mountains including one of the most beautiful lagoons in the Andes mountains. The lagoon has an intense emerald green color and transparency that reflects the vastness of the surrounding mountains. It tells the sad story of a beautiful Inca princess who when she died her husband deposited the body of his beloved in the bed of the lagoon, turning the color of the waters to emerald green, alike the eyes of the princess.

Aside from stunning mountain scenery on this tour you will also be able to see ruins of the Inca empire, where llama caravans stopped to rest after a long travel for the Inca Trail. You will also get to observe the ruins of an intricate route of the Transandino railway winding between tunnels and through steep cliffs.

We go up the road curve called el Caracol, a road which few people have seen before, at an altitude of 2680 meters where we find the Hotel Portillo and ski resort. This historical hotel has received several visits by important political figures around the world, world champions, artists, and others. With over 100 years of operation it is the oldest winter resort in South America.

To make this tour a unforgettable we will also visit the San Esteban vineyard, the most important vineyard in the Aconcagua Valley. This vineyard shares the international success it has achieved through the Chilean wine industry. San Esteban vineyard offers tours of its facilities with wine experts who will tell us about the advantages and strong sides of their wines and tell us the history of the vineyard as we go through its different locations.

We look forward to giving you a splendid day in the Andes including a magnificent vineyard and ski resort.

“My wife Laura and I had an amazing day touring Portillo and San Esteban Vineyards with Estela and Patricio! They picked us up right at our hotel and were extremely accommodating when we ended up having a special request. We also explored an archaeological site with petroglyphs when we got to San Esteban. The wine we had, In Situ Carmenere and a white wine, were both so delicious and the grounds were beautiful. Portillo was breathtaking and Estela and Patricio were the perfect guides, friendly, accommodating, and fun to be around. Would definitely recommend to a friend or take another tour with them if we end up back in Chile!!”
Had a wonderful time visiting Portillo and the Inca Lagoon

“Information was correct, communications spot on, pickup time spot on. Vanessa (our 'guide') was chirpy, cheerful, genuine, and with excellent English - thoroughly recommend her. The trip up to see 'the puddle' was half boring due to time and distance exiting the city (any city), but for those who appreciate geology - WOW.

For normal people, it's a serpentine drive up to the lake and ski resort at 2900 meters - which would be great in the winter. When down the bottom again, the tour around the vineyard was interesting to see the investment involved in making wines, and some traditional techniques that produced some scummy wines (which of course we purchased).

All said and done - a very pleasant, low key day that my wife and I thoroughly enjoyed. WELL DONE!”
I recommend it to everyone.
