This popular tour will take you to the beautiful Irazu volcano, the small historic town of Orosi, and then to a hotel and hot springs. The tour starts with a pick up at your hotel before heading out for a one-hour transfer to the summit of the stunning volcano, Irazu.

Irazú Volcano National Park is in the Central Volcanic Conservation Area of Costa Rica. The volcano is still active although the last major eruptions were between 1963 and 1965, with occasional minor eruptions and some small lava flows since that time. In Costa Rica, the volcano is known by the name of "El Coloso" (The Colossus) due to the catastrophes that it has provoked in the past. The volcano's summit has several craters, one of which contains Diego de la Haya, a green crater lake of variable depth. At 11,260 feet (3,432 m), the Irazú Volcano is the highest active volcano in Costa Rica. It is easily visited from San José, with a road leading right up to the summit craters. From the top, it is possible to see both the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans on a clear day. However, such clear days are rare, and the volcano's summit is usually cloud-covered.

After the visit to the volcano, you will enjoy the beauty of the Orosi Valley and Town. This small town puts travelers in an ideal spot to view some of the country's most historic landmarks, including the Iglesia de San Jose de Orosi, which was built in 1743 and is the oldest church in the country still in use today. The church's whitewashed walls and classic Spanish-colonial architecture are a testament to the long hours and artistic dedication that went into this church's design.

Nearby this town, we will continue our journey to Rio Perlas, a beautiful hotel and hot springs complex where you will be able to have a great lunch and enjoy the thermal pool, gardens and rainforest.

By 3:00 PM we will depart to San Jose, arriving at your hotel by 5:00 PM.

“We arrived in Puerto Limon via a cruise ship. Greenway Nature Day Tour Company had a nice air conditioned bus waiting for our cruise critic group. Our guides were both excellent and spoke English very well.
They first took us to a local artisan coffee and gift shop where we were able to try locally grown and roasted coffee. It was actually quite good. We then drove onto the first part of our tour to Cahuita National Park. What an amazing place. A nice walk along a beach area with all kinds of wildlife all around us. The guides did an excellent job of pointing all of this out from Howler Monkeys to leak cutter ants to Sloths up in the trees. We were under the cover of the trees so it was a very pleasant experience and an easy area to walk along.

We next went to a banana plantation on our route to the Tortuguero Canal. We stayed in the bus because they didn't want us to potentially spread any disease to the banana plants. However our guide went out and cut off a start of a banana bloom and brought it back to the bus and showed us all what the baby bananas look like. It was totally fascinating.

Tortuguero Canal was quite fun as well. We saw all kinds of wild-life including more sloths, all kinks of birds and even a small caiman (small alligator) in the water as well as bats sleeping under a Palm leaf. When we returned from the boat portion of the tour they had some refreshing cut fruit for us to snack on. All-in-all it was a great day and I wouldn't have planned it any differently. Thank you so much for the great tour Greenway! The price was excellent and your guides made it a really fun time for everyone.”
