Conquer Mount Kilimanjaro via the Machame route during this seven-day, guided trek. Dubbed the ‘whiskey route’, Machame is longer than most of the other routes. However, the opportunity to walk high and sleep low along with the distance to the top mean better acclimatisation for travelers along with a high success rate.
Your climb begins at Machame Gate, located at an elevation of 1800 metres. Hike through a majestic rainforest on the first day of this trip, before continuing up the mountain to reach Shira Camp, where the Lemosho route joins from the west. From here you traverse the southern side of the mountain to reach Barranco and climb the Barranco Wall on your way to Barafu Camp. Having summited the mountain, you will descend via the Mweka trail rather than retracing your steps down the Machame route.
The Machame route is a good seven-day hike for travelers with no experience of trekking in high altitudes. However, experienced mountaineers comfortable with high elevations may opt for the more difficult six-day ascent using the same route.
Please note that you will be joining a group during this tour.
Join an unforgettable 5-day group safari from Arusha, exploring Tanzania’s most celebrated wildlife destinations: Serengeti National Park, Ngorongoro Crater, and Lake Manyara National Park. Witness the incredible diversity of wildlife, including lions, elephants, rhinos, and the famous tree-climbing lions of Lake Manyara. Experience the vast plains of the Serengeti and the breathtaking Ngorongoro Crater, often called the “Garden of Eden,” with its rich ecosystem teeming with life. Led by expert driver-guides, this safari promises unparalleled wildlife encounters and scenic beauty, making it the adventure of a lifetime.

Northern Tanzania is home to some of Africa’s most famous national parks. Within them thrives an incredible array of wildlife, including the iconic “Big Five” – lions, elephants, buffaloes, leopards, and rhinos. And the terrain is nothing short of spectacular - from Africa’s highest peak, Mount Kilimanjaro, towering over the savannah, to the colossal walls of the world's largest volcanic caldera, the Ngorongoro Crater, embracing a rich ecosystem. Set against this expansive wilderness, the unique circular homes of the Maasai dot the plains and farmlands and towns drape across the landscape. This 9 day cycling tour takes us through rural and remote northern Tanzania at its best.
We begin at a lodge in the western foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro, our launchpad for a traverse into the savannah. After an immersive day spent in a village-stye Maasai ecolodge, we venture south to the slopes of Mount Meru and Tanzania’s safari capital of Arusha. We then dart across the countryside to reach Tarangire National Park, renowned for its large herds of elephants. Here we have a full-day jeep safari before continuing onwards on dirt roads to the shores of Lake Manyara. Our final cycling day involves a climb up the escarpment of the Great Rift Valley, leading us to the spectacular, UNESCO World Heritage listed, Ngorongoro Conservation Area.
