During your 1-hour tour you will enjoy short Segway experience in the most beautiful place in Barcelona - Old Port.
History of this place begins in 4th century BC when Barcelona was occupied by the Laietani. Barkeno, on Montjuïc, was their main settlement. But Port Vell started it’s port activity only since the 11th century AD. The port that you can see now was built as part of an urban renewal program prior to the 1992 Barcelona Olympics. Before this, it was a run-down area of empty warehouses, railroad yards, and factories.
You will see the harbor, palm tree boulevard, and the heart of the old Port – Drassanes. Here you can see Barcelona Royal Shipyard which nowadays houses the Barcelona Maritime Museum. Construction started during the 13th century under the rule of Peter III of Aragon. The shipyard's restoration was finished in early 2013. The Museum was reopened in 2014.
Along the way, you will enjoy Barcelona’s unique monuments, for example Monument of Columbus is a 60 m tall monument to Christopher Columbus at the lower end of La Rambla, main street of the old town. It was constructed for the World's Fair in Barcelona in 1888 in order to honor Columbus' first voyage to the Americas.
You can also see the Head of Barcelona, a 20 m sculpture done by American Pop artist Roy Lichtenstein for the 1992 Summer Olympics. It include styles of the three main artists of this city: Antoni Gaudi, Pablo Picasso and Joan Miro.
Then there is the Gambrinus Lobster Statue next to the Head of Barcelona. It was originally part of the decor at the Gambrinus seafood restaurant. The 10m long fibre-glass sculpture was designed and built by Spanish artist Javier Mariscal. When the Gambrinus restaurant closed, the statue was bought by Barcelona city council.
