Russia: Last Journey of the Tsars
5 - Excellent
  • Anonymous
“Just returned from the first departure of a new trip venturing to parts of Russia where foreign tourists are few and far between, travelling on sections of the Trans-Siberian route - but without the endurance test of days on end on a train.”
Fun and local experience with exceptional artist and interpreter
5 - Excellent
  • Grace Ma
“This experience was exceptional and I highly recommend it. The artist and interpreter were able to meet me at a cafe very close to where my tour group was so that I didn't have to wander too far away. The doll ended up being beautiful even though I am not artistic because the artist gave me some very good pointers!”
Culture and Kremlins in the Wintertime
4 - Very Good
  • Anonymous
“This was an opportunity to experience some of the many faces of Russia, from the austere grandeur of Moscow to the opulence of St Petersburg, as well as the quieter charms of Novgorod and Pushkin. Traveling on the overnight sleeper train from Moscow provided a taste of real Russia away from the everyday touristic experience, as well an opportunity for plenty of group bonding. Russia in wintertime is magical, from Red Square at night to the frozen lake at the Catherine Palace and the canals of St Petersburg.”

Travel Tips

  • Many travel companies within Russia offer a tour of the ‘Golden Ring’. This is a great option if you want to take in some of the gorgeous ancient cities just north of Moscow.
  • The Russians take their vodka very seriously. As a sign of respect, always drink your vodka straight, without ice or mixers. If finished with your drink, leave some vodka in your glass. Your host will almost always refill an empty glass.
  • Several sites and attractions are closed during the colder months. If visiting between December and March, be sure to research opening times in advance.
  • Want to really make the most of your trip? Brush up on Russian literature, music and history. Russians love talking about their culture with others.
  • Finding English speakers can be difficult outside prime tourist areas, so be sure to learn some basic greetings and phrases before your visit.
  • Same sex relationships are still not fully accepted in Russia. Try to avoid same sex PDA.
