  • There's a lot more to Iceland than ice and vikings. Follow the scenic 'Golden Circle', visiting geothermal springs and geysers, the mighty waterfall of Gullfoss and the site of the nation's first parliament at Thingvellir
  • Drive along the island’s spectacular South Shore past the Reynisdrangar Rocks and volcanic black sand beaches
  • Head to Skaftafell National Park and get adventurous with a hike to Vatnajokull, Europe's largest glacier
  • The aurora borealis is the best lightshow on Earth, and this trip is your ticket. Stay up late to see the northern sky dance with green light (subject to weather conditions and activity)

Is this trip right for you:
  • The Northern Lights (also known as the Aurora Borealis) are a natural display of coloured lights in the night sky of the northern hemisphere. While Northern Light displays can never be guaranteed, as they are a natural phenomenon, you have a higher chance of seeing them in locations at high latitudes, such as Iceland. Please note that weather conditions and overall activity can affect visibility. Keep your fingers crossed for clear skies during your visit. There are a number of apps you can download that show current and forecast activity of the aurora around the world. Some of these apps have a function that allow you to be alerted at night when the aurora becomes visible in your current location.
  • Iceland can be an expensive destination in many ways, from museum entrance fees to visiting a cafe, but especially in terms of eating out. To provide you with an example, a main meal outside of Reykjavik can be around the ISK 4,000 mark. Your leader will be able to advise on how to save money. In remote areas the only option for dinner will be at the guesthouse we are staying at. Please stock up on food at a supermarket prior to arrival if you would like to opt out eating at the guesthouses' restaurants.
  • Iceland can be extremely cold at this time of year. Please bring appropriate clothing for adverse weather conditions. There may be the rare occasion where your leader has to alter the itinerary and activities due to the weather. In this case an alternative will be offered.
  • Due to the remote locations we visit, there are a few long drives on this trip. This is a great opportunity to enjoy the scenery and spend some time getting to know the other members of your group.
Vaccination Policy for departures before 31st December 2022:
  • On this trip, proof of vaccination against COVID-19 is mandatory for all travellers departing prior to 31st December 2022. Individuals who cannot be vaccinated due to medical reasons may apply for exemptions. Medical certificates provided by medical professionals will be required to apply for such exemptions which will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
  • Children aged 17 years and under are exempt. However, to be eligible for travel, they must present one of the following: a negative COVID-19 test, proof of recovery, or proof of full vaccination.
Vaccination Policy for departures after 1st January 2023:
  • On this trip, proof of vaccination against COVID-19 is no longer mandatory on departures after 1st January 2023. Nonetheless, all travellers are strongly advised to be vaccinated as a safety measure to protect themselves and others on the tour. This policy excludes all Polar trips and select adventure cruises, where testing and vaccination are required.
  • Also, proof of vaccination may still be required at specific entry points or by the airlines. Therefore, please make sure to check all the travel requirements carefully before travelling.

QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS Find answers to the most frequently asked questions about this tour.
  • How many days are enough for Europe?

You can spend a couple of months exploring Europe and still feel like you have not seen everything. Generally speaking, a two-week Europe trip should be just enough if you are looking to cover its major highlights. However, if you want a comprehensive travel experience within this duration, it is better that you focus on a region or a few countries rather than traveling all over the continent.

Choose a single country or schedule your trip around a handful of cities in different countries. While larger European cities may require three to four days to explore, you can get around smaller destinations in a day or two. Planning your trip around a particular region will cut down your travel time and save your time in transit.

  • We would like to travel when we are most likely to see the Northern Lights. What do you suggest is the best time to travel?

The Northern Lights are usually most frequent during November to March, however, it is impossible to predict with certainty. For more on the best time to visit Iceland, please see our related article.

  • What is the best month to visit Iceland?

Given that summer temperatures do not rise much above 16°C, the best time to visit Iceland is between the months of May and September. Gullfoss Waterfall is also at its most impressive at this time of year, and the midnight sun is visible in the country’s north. Travel outside of the summer season and you may find the country’s museums and hiking routes, such as the Laugavegur Trail, closed. However, the period between November to February does have the bonus of being the season of the Northern Lights, and major attractions such as the Blue Lagoon remain open all year round. Find more information here.

  • Is it expensive to travel to Iceland? How does credit card system work?

Iceland is one of the most expensive countries in the world to visit, although there are ways to keep costs down, such as by renting a camper van. Overall, visitors should be looking at a daily per-person budget of between USD 100 and USD 200. Most hotels, restaurants, and shops accept credit cards from major providers, and there are no minimum purchase requirements. Since cards are the preferred method of payment, you should be okay even if you avoid carrying cash completely, although having some for emergencies is always a good idea.

  • What currency is used in Iceland?

The currency of Iceland is the krona (ISK). It is difficult to exchange your dollars and euros with the Icelandic currencies outside of the country, but easy to do once in the country, both at the airport and in bank branches around the island. USD 1 is equivalent to around ISK 130.
