  • Delve into Cambodia’s turbulent history under the Khmer Rouge
  • Pay your respects to lost lives at the Choueng Ek Memorial
  • Experience authentic Cambodian culture on Mekong Island
Cambodia is an Asian treasure. With an empire of temples and an unrivalled reputation for friendliness, it is a must visit. Sadly, it is impossible to understand the real Cambodia without also discovering the horrors of its recent history. This tour allows you to experience Cambodia’s rich culture while also giving you an important insight into its tragic past.

The tour starts with a visit to the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum. Previously a high school, it was seized by the Khmer Rouge in 1975, and became the regime’s largest centre of detention and torture.

Next, head out of the city to the Choueng Ek Memorial, where a Buddhist stupa marks the site of the notorious Killing Fields. Here you can pay tribute to those that tragically lost their lives.

After a sombre start, the mood lifts as you travel by tuk-tuk over the Japanese Friendship Bridge, before catching a ferry to Mekong Island. Get a real flavour for Cambodian culture here as you visit local silk weavers, floating fishing farms and a Buddhist temple.

As the tour ends, enjoy sunset over the Mekong River, contemplating all you have discovered about the mesmerizing country that is Cambodia.

“My wife and I did a one day tour of Phnom Penh and are extremely satisfied with its entire content. If the beginning was rather sad because of the visit to the Genocide Museum (which is a definite must since it is part oft he country’s history!), the end of the tour on a ship watching the sunset was memorable! All in all, we were able to learn much about the city, its history and were able to experience various things like taking a ferry to a neighbouring island to visit a silk producing business, among others. This was the second tour we booked with Urban Adventures (the first one being in Ho Chi Mihn, Vietnam) and, as mentioned before, we are completely satisfied. The booking process is straight forward and the communication with the company works very well. This review would be incomplete if we didnt mention our wonderful tour guide Picheda. She is a young and very motivated tour guide with experience who was very knowledgeable of her subject and very professional. She executed the tour very well, was very friendly and shared with us her knowledge about her country, people and traditions. She is a very nice person to spend the whole day with! We recommend her and her work unconditionally! Thanks for everything and keep up the good work!”

“Da was an excellent guide. Her local knowledge made our trip interesting and educational. My 13 year old daughter and I had a great day, thank you.”
Good to know Dress standard: Dress standards are conservative throughout Asia, especially outside major cities. To respect this, and for your own comfort, we strongly recommend modest clothing. This means clothing that covers your shoulders and knees. Loose, lightweight, long clothing is both respectful and cool in the predominately hot Asian climate.

Visitors to the Royal Palace must wear shorts or skirts that are knee-length or below, shirt sleeves that reach the elbow or longer, and sandals or shoes (no flip flops). Otherwise, they will be required to rent appropriate covering.

Child Policy: Children between the ages of 6 and 11 inclusively are permitted on this tour at the rate listed above. Please select ‘child’ above when booking. Children below the age of 6 are not permitted on this tour.

Closure: The Royal Palace grounds may be closed on important Khmer holidays for part or all of the day, and as such the order of visiting different sites may change in order to accommodate this. In the rare event that the palace grounds are closed for the entire day, an alternate activity of the same value will be provided.
