Peru Tours and Trips 2024/2025

Home to the Peru Amazon rainforest, a sprawling coastline, and Andes mountains that seem to reach the heavens, Peru is a dream destination for nature lovers. It is a hiker’s paradise, with plenty of jaw-dropping trekking and hiking routes. Peru is as mysterious as its landmarks. It finds its way into most travelers’ wish lists for one major reason – Machu Picchu, the Lost City of the Incas. They say that the moment you see Machu Picchu for the first time from that historic trail, you suddenly realize just how rewarding traveling can be, and tend to re-discover a long-lost part of your soul.

Peru Tour Reviews

Highly recommend
5 - Excellent
  • Kevin Ng
“I highly recommend this tour operator for the Inca trail! Our guides, Fletcher and Wilber, were amazing! Their personality and knowledge of the Inca trail and history made for a memorable experience. The food was amazing. They provided a sample of Peruvian culture through their food and stories, all cooked by our own personal chef! The Inca trail was beautiful and the porters worked so hard to make the experience feel even more memorable and comfortable. I can’t say enough about this company and experience. Don’t hesitate and book with them.”

  • Maurice Rombout
“Amazing trip, 2 Days and 1 Night with the two of us. Unfortunately I got a knee injury a couple days earlier and could walk very little, especially walking down was painful. After explaining this to the tour operator, I could still do the expedition and join at 17:00 pm on day1 and thus still visit Machu Picchu together on Day 2. My girlfriend did the hike on Day 1 without me which made me a bit scared. The hike is still a challenge. Our guide Renaldo suggested to call her during lunch to see how she was doing. Before lunch, he also sent a video of how she was doing. I really appreciate his effort of contacting me the first day although I was not hiking on Day 1. Day 2 we did together and it was amazing, the view, the civilization, the rituals, the stories, the company. On Day2, Renaldo put extra effort and asked if I could see Machu Picchu from above, which you only could see if you hiked on Day1. Via a shortcut I could walk up and still see Picchu from above. Really really appreciate this. Thank you.”

  • Brent C Phifer
“This travel operator provided us with a two-day trek to Machu Picchu that has to be experienced to be truly understood. Their crew of porters and cook provided exceptional service and meals. David's knowledge was outstanding and his attention to detail in regards to accommodation travel and gear storage was second to none. If you want a first class trekking experience this company should be your first choice.”

Peru - Tour Highlights and Travel Tips

You might only know about Machu Picchu, but the fabled city is just the beginning. Peru was once home to a thriving pre-Columbian civilization that dominated the region before the Spanish. The Incas were responsible for creating some of the most beautiful archaeological wonders, combining striking architecture on the land of great natural beauty. To this day, Peru retains its alluring and enchanting features that were carved by the ancient Incas.

Tour Highlights

  • Hike the Inca Trail, or its other famous alternative routes like the Lares Trek or Salkantey Trek.
  • Visit Machu Pichhu
  • Go sandboarding in the Peruvian desert
  • Look for macaws in the Amazon jungle
  • Explore the deep canyons of Colca
  • Visit the floating islands of Lake Titicaca
  • Trek the Cordillera Blanca, the highest range of the Peruvian Andes

Travel Tips

  • Machu Picchu can become very crowded during high season. Beat the crowds by staying nearer the site the night before your visit, and be sure to book your tickets ahead of time to avoid disappointment.
  • Stores often shut down for the afternoon siesta, so always plan your meals in advance.
  • It's advisable to not drink the tap water. Many hotels provide bottled water, which should also be used for brushing your teeth.
  • Altitude sickness can be a real issue for some people visiting Peru. Try combatting it with coca leaf tea, a Peruvian remedy that is readily available across the country. Chewing the leaves can have the same effect.
  • On a holiday to Peru, don't skip a visit to Lima. Peru's largest city is often overlooked for hotspot tourist destinations but is full of great food and interesting museums that you'll regret missing out on.
  • Always carry cash when travelling through Peru as many shops will not accept credit cards.

Peru has seasonal weather so please do check up on the best time to visit Peru before planning your tour. And if you’re still hunting for more things to do and places to explore in Peru, do check out our Peru Travel Guide for more information.

Peak Season and Low Season Tours in Peru

The best time to visit Peru is from May to September when the days are gloriously sunny and dry and nights are clear and cool. January through April is the low season and sees heavy and incessant rain showers. Some of Peru’s attractions like the Inca Trail may shut down in February due to the ongoing rains.

  • Peak Season Tours in Peru: The high season is from May to September and is considered the best time to visit Peru. The weather is lovely and dry around this time while the days are long and sunny. The Andes are at their best and the Amazon bursts with life. This is the perfect time for enjoying trekking adventures like the Inca Trail. But bear in mind that this is also the busiest time of the year to visit Machu Picchu. Peru’s high season is also a good time to take to the water for boat trips on Lake Titicaca and the Amazon River.
  • Low Season Tours in Peru: The low season in Peru is between January and April. The country sees increased rainfall and cooler temperatures during this time. Some of the hiking trails are closed in February, owing to rainfall. But despite the rain, this is a good time to head to Lake Titicaca to explore the Amantani, Taquile, and Uros Islands.

Tours in Peru - Questions and Answers

  • What is the best month to visit Peru? Can I visit Peru during the off-season?

The best time to visit Peru is between the months of May and September. Corresponding with the dry season, temperatures in the country at this time hover between 16°C to 22°C. But more importantly, traveling to Peru during this time means that there is little fear of getting caught in the country’s torrential monsoon. Another less popular but still good time to visit Peru is between October and December. A shoulder period between dry and monsoon seasons, the climate during this time of year is generally fine, although skies are cloudier and you might have to dodge the odd shower. The wettest months are January and February. It is still possible to visit destinations such as Lake Titicaca during the rainy season, but the Inca Trail is closed for travelers. Find more information here.

  • How many days do you need in Peru?

Given its wealth of attractions, there are many reasons why you should consider Peru trips that last between ten days and two weeks. This will give you enough time to see top-rated sites, such as Manu National Park, while also discovering the country’s history and culture in more far-flung and as-yet-unknown destinations. You can still take in a number of attractions even if you can only spare one week in Peru, however, the time constraint would mean that you will have to limit your exploration to a destination or two. For a more detailed rundown, check out our travel guide on how many days to spend in Peru.

  • What is considered rude in Peru? What cultural notions should I be aware of?

Personal contact is an important part of Peruvian culture. Not only do Peruvians tend to stand closer to each other than you might at home, but physical contact (especially on one’s arms and back) is also common. You should avoid the desire to step away, as this is considered offensive. Greetings are important, with handshakes along with a few words of greeting being common. Give the elderly your respect if you are young and leave your seat on public transportation for them.

  • Do I need to acclimatize before hiking Machu Pichu?

If you live close to sea level, then you will realize what a significant effect higher elevations can have on your body upon arriving in Cusco. Doctors recommend at least two days of acclimatization before considering any strenuous activities, such as going for the popular two or four-day hikes to Machu Picchu. A nice way to spend this time would be by exploring the historic center of Lima or taking one of the many less-demanding day hikes that are available in the country. If you plan on trekking, you can read our article on the ultimate trekking guide in Peru

  • What vaccinations do I need?

You should ensure you are up to date with any vaccinations that are standard in your home country, such as those providing protection against tetanus and measles. A medical professional may suggest boosters for these vaccinations. Other diseases they may suggest vaccinations for are hepatitis B, diphtheria, and rabies, all of which are potentially deadly. Yellow fever, transmitted by mosquitoes, is a risk in the country’s east. There is a risk of malaria in the country’s northeast, around Iquitos and the Peruvian Amazon. Since there is currently no vaccination against this disease, prophylactic drugs are recommended. Find more information here.
