Enjoyable Peruvian trekking

“This is a great trip to visit Cusco, The Andes and Machu Picchu, including physical, culinary and cultural delights. As with all activity at altitude, a good fitness level is no guarantee that altitude symptoms will not occur, however it will certainly make the trekking more manageable and help assure that the group remains together. The Moonstone Trek provides the opportunity for high Andean trekking away from the crowds that can be experienced on the "Inca Trail". However, from discussions with other travelers, the Inca Trail offers greater variety of flora whilst trekking in the cloud forest. The landscape on the trek is stunning, but generally involves fairly barren and rugged mountain-scapes, as might be expected at such altitudes.Visiting in July, the days were warm to hot and the nights often sub-zero, requiring a range of clothing.”

“Memorable hike in the Andes without any other turist on the trek, fantastic valleys and mountains plus 1 day Inka trail reaching Machu Picchu through the Sun Gate. This was an all-in-one trek.”

“Counting on your fingers top 5 best things you've done in life, this one will be first. The Trail is filled with orchids and birds, sights and senses everywhere, pertinent and immediate, surrounded in earth's wonder. But too it's a personal victory, a sense of elation when you arrive. When its over and your back in civilization the littlest mundane things, like a full fledged toilet, seem remarkable! It opens your eyes.”

Travel Tips for Peru Walking Tours

  • Avoid stimulating beverages like coffee and energy drinks — not to mention alcohol — when hiking the mountains on your Peru walking tour. Opt for water instead, which will keep you hydrated and healthy.
  • Purchase traveler’s insurance to protect yourself from emergencies — we recommend investing in World Nomads.
  • Prepare yourself for high-altitude hikes by acclimating to the elevation slowly, and consider bringing along nausea medication to ease any discomfort.
  • Dress in layers to stay comfortable throughout the day because temperatures in Peru can change drastically.
  • Pack your passport and money in a safe, waterproof bag that fits snugly on to your body.
