Stunning cycle on the second Italian stage of the Via Francigena from Parma, across the Appennines, to the heart of Tuscany. This section of the Via Francigena encompasses some of the best landscapes of Italy. Starting in the gastronomic heaven of Parma, an initially demanding but beautiful cycle will lead you through medieval hamlets and towns awash with history. This breathtaking route continues across the Appennines, through the green countryside and briefly towards the sea. You then plunge into the little-known region of Lunigiana before cycling into the rolling hills of Tuscany. You will visit the world-renowned historic Tuscan towns of Lucca and San Gimignano, and then cycle one of the most beautiful sections of the Via Francigena as you make your way towards Siena. En route you will bask in the stunning landscapes and immerse yourself in the history and culture of these regions. You will stop to visit parish churches which are a thousand years old, explore archaeological finds discovered at the Abbey of San Caprasio, and marvel at tower-crowned castles. And of course, you will enjoy sampling the delicious local food in each town you stop in.

“A fascinating introduction to rural Northern Romania with a great guide, good hilly walks, friendly warm people and masses of hearty Romanian food. It did my soul good to know there are such places left in this world.”

“This was one of our best vacations ever! We loved seeing the Czech countryside up close and visiting the smaller towns, each one cuter than the next. The route through the National Park was particularly beautiful and was our favorite day of the trip. Beer and wine are cheap and plentiful and the food is delicious. We would recommend this trip to anyone who is a fit cyclist who can easily climb 2-3,000 feet/day and who wants to see more of the Czech Republic than just Prague.”

“The trip was a once in a lifetime trip. I was a solo female traveler age 62. Our guide Nora was amazing. Only 27 years old, she was so knowledgeable, professional, and patient. She always had our best interest in mind and when there was a glitch at one of the accommodations, she just resolved it quickly and calmly. The Mont Blanc Rambler which is graded as 3 was more difficult than I or others in the group expected based on the descriptions in the brochure. But it was doable and a great experience. Besides the incredible views, the food was one of the best things about the trip. The accommodations varied but they were generally good to excellent. We had a great group of people from 5 different countries and ages from 20s to 60s. We enjoyed sitting around together at the end of our day with a beer or glass of wine before dinner. Dormitory living was really fine. You get to know your travel partners well and you are so tired after your day of hiking that everyone is asleep by 10 anyway.”
