Starting in Nairobi and ending in Gondar, the tour Ethiopia & Kenya Explorer is a guided adventure trip that takes 44 days. You will be traveling through Addis Ababa, Lake Ziway, Debark and 20 other destinations in Kenya and Ethiopia. Ethiopia & Kenya Explorer is a group tour which includes accommodation, transport, meals and others. Please see the package includes section for further details.

Ethiopia is not most people's first choice in Africa but in many ways it should be; especially when you combine it with northern and central Kenya. For this trip has it all, trekking in the Simien Mountains, hidden gems such as the Blue Nile Falls, great history and culture as seen throughout Ethiopia and, of course, the wonderful wildlife of Kenya, as seen in Samburu and Nakuru National Parks.

The trip is split into two parts; the first being the northern Highlands and deserts of Ethiopia and the second, the Rift Valley of Southern Ethiopia and the deserts and savannah lands of Northern Kenya.

On the first we get a chance to take an amazing expedition by jeep out to the surreal landscapes of the Danakil Depression as well as exploring the great Christian churches and monasteries, such as Lalibela. Further south of Addis, we discover the hidden jewel of the UNESCO world heritage site of Harar, before descending down across the plains of East Africa to Nairobi.

“Maybe it would be better if more of the hotels had warm/hot water but this is a minor detail and I don't mind camping without it. It was just a bit of a shock sometimes when expecting warm water but it was freezing instead.”

For this Ethiopia & Kenya Explorer tour getting the required visa(s) is the responsibility for each individual traveller, as visa requirements vary depending on your nationality. Local Payment The local payment is a group fund, paid separately from the trip price on the first day of the tour. It covers everything that the group does together on the ground. This is primarily hotel accommodation and campsite fees, meals whilst camping (but not while eating in restaurants), and included activities and puts money directly back to the local community. The local payment, or kitty system, is unique to overlanding tours and provides maximum flexibility and best value on the road - you can see exactly what is being paid for, you get everything at cost price, it keeps costs competitive by leveraging group expenses and saves on administrative costs. The fund is run by the tour guide, and any excess left over at the end is returned equally to the group. Local prices are estimated in USD when we print the brochure then reviewed monthly as local costs and exchange rates vary throughout the year. It's therefore important once you book your trip to check the website regularly and just before departure for any changes to the amount.
