Other Practical InformationHow fit do you have to be to climb Kilimanjaro? Climbing Mount Kilimanjaro is a physical undertaking, which means that you should prepare yourself accordingly. Being in a good shape is important in many respects. Obviously, strong, conditioned legs make it easier to walk uphill and downhill for sustained periods of time. Similarly, general aerobic fitness allows the body to function efficiently with less oxygen, while a fit body is more likely to withstand the stress of consecutive days of hiking and camping. Finally, a positive mental attitude can work wonders for you when you are fatigued and doubts arise. Therefore, while you don't need to be exceptionally fit for this trek, you do need to get your body used to the particular demands of this hike. Otherwise you will feel so tired on the first few days that you won't have energy left when it counts. The best way to train for a Kilimanjaro climb is to simply walk on a regular basis.
