HIGHLIGHTS
  • Mountain bike across the spectacular landscape of west Kilimanjaro
  • Spot wild animals as you cycle past their natural habitats
  • Pass through Tanzanian villages along your diverse route
Mountain biking in west Kilimanjaro is a fun and thrilling way to experience one of the Tanzania’s great game reserves. If you're reasonably fit, are confident on a bike and have a sense of adventure, then cycling through this great wilderness is an awesome experience.

Imagine the thrill of pedaling along red dirt roads surrounded by endless spectacular horizons when suddenly you spot a herd of zebras, impala and wildebeests grazing in the distance. Stumbling across wild animals in their natural habitat is an unforgettable experience, and one that stands apart from all other kinds of wildlife sighting.

You'll be picked up from your hotel in Moshi at 7 am and be transferred to Simba Farm to start your bike tour. Your ride starts with a downhill slope through the farm as you head toward the main rough road. Follow the road through the Ngare Nairobi village and cycle along the Ndarakwai Conservancy border towards the west Kilimanjaro airstrip. Then make your way through the main dirt road towards the Tinga Tinga village.

Proceed then south towards the Ngabobo Village cycling through the dry and arid open grasslands, an environment completely different from the lush, green slopes of Mt. Kilimanjaro which you have left behind. Wildlife such as wildebeests, giraffes, zebra and elands can be seen on this section of the ride.

The final part of the path is a gradual ascent on a gravel road as you cycle through the Ngabobo Village towards the Maasai Lodge where the tour ends. After the 49 km ride, you'll be transferred back to your hotel in Moshi.

The whole lodge is only for two)) But the main thing is ther nature ! We saw a lot of animals and birds. Unfotunately we didn't meet lions and gepard(( May be next time!”

“I was so impressed by the organisational capacity of the owner of Migration Kili Expeditions and Safaris on my expedition to Kilimanjaro that I asked him to create another custom-made safari for me in which I not only visited Tarangire, Serengeti, Ngorongoro but saw the Olduvai gorge - the birthplace of humanity. The guides on both expeditions were exceptional : Rogath Ephren Mtuy- who not only holds the world record for ascent to the summit of Kilimanjaro and return to Marangu park in 14 hours and 50 min , but is an expert on the local plants and flowers and their healing properties or other uses. Cyprion , my guide on the safari , not only looked after me - erecting tents, managing a superb cook, maneuvering his jeep according to my whims as a photographer , but had a depth of knowledge about, and respect for all the animals and their way of living and being . Both guides clearly loved their work and their courtesy and charm were outstanding.
As an older lone traveler , journalist and photographer, being explicitly catered to , this experience was way beyond expectations : not just what nature had to offer and my increased understanding and respect for other species, but in my trust of the organizer and guides who showed a responsiveness and intelligence, a depth of caring.”
