The 6-day Rongai route ascents Kilimanjaro from the north-eastern side of the mountain along the border between Tanzania and Kenya. This route retains a sense of unspoilt wilderness and offers a different perspective of Kilimanjaro by approaching the famous mountain from the north. Rongai is ideal for those who are not confident to hike steeper paths, those who want to avoid traffic, and those who want to enjoy a quieter hike.

The Rongai route’s premier advantage is that it is one of the quietest routes on the mountain, although it becomes busier when it connects with the Marangu route just before reaching Kibo hut. The route also descends along the Marangu route, however, on this trip, the intrepid climber will retain a sense of wilderness and adventure by sleeping in tents and not using the A-frame huts of the Marangu route.

Scenically, Rongai is extraordinarily beautiful as it travels through an unspoiled rain forest and remote wilderness area, although it is not as scenically varied as Machame, Lemosho and Shira. It is also preferred when climbing during the rainy season because the north side of the mountain receives less precipitation.

“From start to finish this trip was perfect. In Tanzania, our guide was a top notch professional and extremely knowledgeable, taking us off the beaten path to provide us with an unrivaled experience in the parks. Dahlia’s advice for Tanzania were also unimpeachable. Our guide provided us with a social and political perspective no travel brochure could provide. It was a privilege for us to have him share his story with us which was honest, raw, and poignant and changed us in profound ways. We surprised by the level of hospitality from the owner of Dahlia Africa, he organized for us a free BBq dinner at the end of our trip and he bother to drive us to the airport himself he made us felt we paid less for all we got. We recommend you to our friends and travelers.”

“Our experience with Dahlia Africa Kilimanjaro Team was wonderful. My wife and I hiked the Mount Kilimanjaro this February. They sent pre-hike information to help condition us for the hike and tell us the equipment we needed. We met the owner Brian and our guide Faza the day before we started. They checked our equipment and explained how the next 9days Northern circuit route would roll out climbing. Faza was a terrific guide having hiked the Mount Kilimanjaro over 100times. He made our experience fun and informative with his knowledge of the Kilimanjaro, pointing out names of rock formations and plants native to the area. He also told us some history of the Kilimanjaro! I highly, highly recommend them for any trip to Kilimanjaro or for that matter any hike on their website you would like to take.”
