Non cadere nella trappola per turisti di comprare una sciarpa per il deserto, non è necessario. L'unico motivo per averne uno è che vuoi le foto turistiche.”

I highly recommend crossing the Atlas Mountains and visiting the Chigaga Dunes Khalil was a perfect guide, taking us around and sharing cultural details about the country and its traditions. He is an excellent driver who always makes people feel safe in the chaotic traffic of Morocco. He knows the desert dunes by heart, we had such a great time crossing them! We were lucky to have an exceptional tour guide (Deji) who made the trip more uplifting and enjoyable. He became more of a friend near the end, and he was professional throughout the tour, and he adapted well to our humour and told some classic stories. Despite the rainy weather, we all collectively enjoyed the trip and would recommend this tour to absolutely anyone. Big thanks to Moha, for driving us a long way but staying in good spirits the whole trip. Another thank you to Deji for sorting out taxis for us even after the tour, to make sure we reached the airport safely. We will be visiting again for sure, and hope to see khalil and Deji again!”

  • Morocco has two popular dune systems - Erg Chebbi and Erg Chigaga. Erg Chebbi is well-traveled and developed, while Erg Chigaga is known for its wild vista and peaceful ambiance
  • The entry point of Erg Chebbi is the village of Merzouga from where one can do the most popular Moroccan Sahara activity of camel trekking amidst the towering dunes of Erg Chebbi.
  • Erg Chigaga provides an off-the-beaten-track experience. Book a 4x4 jeep safari to reach the dune fields of Erg Chigaga.
  • Stargazing under the desert night sky comes highly recommended due to the profusion of twinkling stars in an exceptionally clear sky with no light pollution.

Travel Tips

  • Be prepared for a long driving time (at least 8-10 hours) when accessing the Moroccan Sahara, whether it is Erg Chebbi or Erg Chigaga.
  • The journey to the desert itself is a travel experience like no other, with ancient kasbahs, enchanting oases, and lush palmeries dotting the way.
  • The desert temperature always fluctuates, so dress in layers and carry warm clothes for chilly desert nights.
  • Sahara gets unbearably hot between the summer months of June to September, so it is best avoided.
