Mongolia Tour Reviews

An incredible, stunning, strange and wonderful experience
5 - Excellent

“The organisation and support from the entirely local team running the trip was absolutely exceptional. NK, the group leader, was faultless - calm, fun, supportive, organised, knowledgeable, entertaining. He led an exceptional team of drivers, cooks, mountain bikers/mechanics/guides, who all made the trip utterly fantastic. Breathtaking scenery, well maintained bikes, a good variety of routes - grassy Steppes, mountains, lakes and rivers. Gorgeous camp locations. Fascinating visits to a nomadic family, the capital and the ancient capital. It was a wonderful trip.”
Mongolia, Nadaam, Gobi. Great experience
4 - Very Good

“Fantastic trip. Huge statues, more goats, sheep, horses and cows than you can imagine. A vastness that boggles the mind. The Gobi desert is to be experienced just to get an idea of the size of it. Living in ger camps is worthwhile too. You get to sample what nomadic life can be like. The local people were friendly and open to us visiting their ger homes, and we were offered goats cheese, fermented milk and simple vodka. It's rude to decline the offer! It's hard to pick one particular highlight but I think the Nadaam Festival comes out top.”
Perfect Adventure

“I can not recommend this adventure enough: Mongolia is a special country and our tour company provided the ideal adventure to highlight all aspects of Mongolia and Mongolian life. We arent really mountain bikers but the biking was superb - not particularly easy - but truly enjoyable in terms of terrain, scenery and fun riding. We arent really campers - but have to admit it was kinda enjoyable in the end . Food on the trip was exceptional - we were v well fed: breakfast, elevenses, lunch, afternoon snack, substantial dinner. Ghana and her assistant certainly kept us well fed. We even had a shower and a proper sit down toilet on camp . The whole Mongolian support team were superb and NK - our guide - was a special guy. Knowledgable, funny, kind and considerate - he really made our adventure special.”

Mongolia - Tour Highlights and Travel Tips

A tour of Mongolia is perfect for anyone who fancies themselves a nomad. With a population density of only 1.7 people per square-kilometer, Mongolia is uniquely empty, ideal for a little bit of self-discovery. The phenomenal country also has a geographical diversity unlike anywhere else on Earth, combining sandy desert dunes with high mountains and deep lakes - all of which can be enjoyed while soaking up 250 days of pure sunshine each year.

Tour Highlights

  • Ride a horse in Gorkhi Terelj National Park
  • Ride a camel in the Gobi, the fifth-largest desert in the world
  • Sleep in a ger tent (or yurt), the traditional home of Mongolian nomads
  • Find serenity at the Erdene Zuu Monastery in Kharkhorin
  • Stroll through the meadows of Gorkhi-Terelj National Park

Travel Tips

  • One of Mongolia’s top draws for tourists is the annual Naadam festival. This shouldn't-be-missed event is celebrated in mid-July and is a fantastic way to experience the country’s traditional clothing and dramatic sports competitions.
  • Get ready for that windswept look. Mongolia is an incredibly windy country, so be sure to bring a windbreaker, something to protect your face (like a scarf), and balm for dry lips.
  • If planning an overnight trip to the Gobi Desert during the summer, be sure to pack a variety of clothing and supplies for all temperatures. Expect very hot temperatures during the day, but cold winds at night.
  • When camping, don't take your electricity for granted. Most ger camps rely on generators, and many only supply electricity during certain hours. Ask for hours upon arrival, and be sure to bring some battery-powered flashlights.
  • Mongolians love visitors. If passing a nomadic family's ger on your travels, don't be shy - stop by for a chat. You'll often be offered a cup of milk tea and some pleasant conversation. Bring some gifts with you in anticipation of these visits.
