Loud, lively, and above all, traditional, Mexico throws some incredible annual celebrations and commemorations. While Day of the Dead festivities are rightly perhaps the most famous of the lot, there are plenty of chances to witness many spectacular events on a tour in Mexico.
“Saw so much of Mexico including Day of the Dead Festival. Lots of fantastic scenery, culture and history not to mention food and art.Be prepared for some long days and windy, mountain roads.”

“This is an epic journey through Mexico to see the ancient sites and to get a flavour of the country, its beautiful colours, its friendly people and its delicious food. Although we spent a lot of time on the road between locations (and some were very windy through the Sierra Madre mountains) we always made stops along the way to visit places of interest, have lunch and plenty of stops for the banjos!”

“This trip packs a lot in - culture, Mayan sites, eating, seeing local craftsmen at work, and just soaking up the atmosphere in the old Spanish colonial towns. Around and about in Mexico city, beautiful Puebla, San Cristobal and then lots of Mayan sites. The hotels were all good (had one slight problem in one of them but hopefully this tour operator can get that sorted out for future trips). There are some long travelling days due to the distances which need to be covered, but it's worth it and a lot of the scenery is just amazing to see.”
Top Festivals and Events in Mexico
Join the good-natured crowds in Patzcuaro on the first day of November for the Day of the Dead. Candles, marigold flowers, and brightly-colored model skulls adorn streets and shrines alike in this celebration of life and death that stems from the country’s pre-Columbian cultures. The best places to celebrate the Day of the Dead include Yucatan, Oaxaca and Mexico City.
Engage in the two-week extravaganza of the Festival de Mexico that takes place in the capital, Mexico City in March or April of each year and has a program of events put on in more than 50 venues in and around Downtown.
Line the streets of Veracruz in March for the city’s nine-day carnival, the largest in Mexico. In addition to the rhythmic sounds of salsa, the celebration includes traditional costumes, great food, and wide, unforgettable smiles.
