“The itinerary was very good, and I appreciated the slightly easier walk on the day after climbing Scafell Pike.We were split into two groups of five due to Covid restrictions. Both groups had a mix of abilities and we preferred it from Day 3 onwards when the faster walkers were grouped together and able to go at a faster pace. Please consider offering a Lake District part 2 holiday with the same hotel and guides but a different set of walks (still at the Moderate level). It was a perfect set up and I would love to return for more guided walks in the area.”

“A thoroughly enjoyable trip even though none of the group had originally planned to be in the Lakes. The group itself was excellent as a whole and when split in the smaller 'covid' groups - lots of fun, experience, laughter and shared experiences. A real treat, well done tour operator for thinking on your feet and creating this trip when we couldn't go to where we'd all planned.”

Lake District — Tour Highlights and Travel Tips

Tour Highlights

  • Puerto Varas is a rustic lakeside town that embodies a blend of Chilean and German architectural styles. It features a long promenade, exquisite eateries and even a casino.
  • Vicente Pérez Rosales National Park is one of the prime location for nature enthusiasts. Its crown jewel are the Petrohué Falls that cascade through the channels of lava-formed rocks.
  • Pucón, a town nestled in the central region of Lake District, is know to be a hub for adventure sports. This is a great point to start your trekking, white-water rafting or skiing adventure.
  • Caburgua Lake is a gorgeous natural getaway that stands out from other bodies of water in the Lake District due to its warmer temperatures. The lake also features several stunning beaches and Ojos de Caburgua, waterfalls tucked away 4 kilometers south of the lake.
  • Villarrica Volcano is Lake District’s ominous giant that looms over the entire region. It is one of the most active volcanoes in the country and a popular hiking destination.

Travel Tips

  • The peak times for visiting Lake District are during Chilean summers, from December to March. The fishing season starts in November and runs through May. Visiting the Lake District off-season means you might not get to experience the sunny weather, but you may get better deals on accommodation.
  • German influence in the Lake District is felt to this day, as witnessed by numerous craft breweries that operate in the region. Make sure try out the local brews, such as Puerto Varas’ very own Chester Beer.
  • If you want to find out more about pre-colonial history of Lake District, look into visiting one of the Mapuche (old indigenous tribe) communities.
