Start your photo adventure just before sunset to take advantage of the best light conditions. Meet your photography guide in front of Kiyomizu temple and get acquainted with the necessary techniques for this workshop.
We won’t go inside the temple so make sure you visit it before the start of the tour, if you are interested.
You will kick off by slowly walking down the photogenic slopes of Ninenzaka and Sannenzaka. You will make sure to explore, in depth, all the hidden back alleys as you go.
On the way, your photography guide will dispense composition techniques to refine your shots. He will be talking about subject vs. backdrops, leading lines, color theory, depth of field, figure to ground, negative space etc. In no time you will master these tools in a hands-on and fun way.
Through the prism of photography, we will challenge the way you see Kyoto. You will learn how to create fascinating and artistic images out of an overly touristy area of town.
Once at the bottom of the hill, as the ambient light dims, you will make your way to Yasaka shrine and the Gion district. Shooting in low light conditions requires proper adjustments of camera settings. Your photography guide will be on hand to show you the best setup to get full advantage of your surroundings.
Who knows you may even be lucky enough to spot a geisha walking down the streets. If so, you’ll be prepared!
