Travel Tips
- The perfect time for a Kerala vacation is between January and March when the weather is at its most pleasantly cool. Avoid May and June when the heat and humidity can become unbearable.
- If you plan to visit Munnar or other hill stations, remember to pack some warmer clothes since the evenings can be chilly at any time of the year.
- If you are on a budget, replace a boathouse experience on the backwaters with a simple hop on a local ferry — the trip from Alappuzha to Kottayam is a good choice for this.
- Kerala is renowned for its numerous vibrant festivals, and there’s a good chance that your trip will coincide with some sort of celebration. Be sure to keep up to date with what’s on while you’re travelling so you don’t miss out.
- If you are looking for something to read before or during your trip, Arundhati Roy’s Booker Prize-winning 'The God of Small Things' set in Kerala’s backwaters is the obvious choice.
