  • See the phenomenal sunrise view from Poon Hill
  • Enjoy the beauty of the majestic Himalayas
Embark on the Poon Hill trek, one of the easiest treks in the country and suitable for all ages looking to dive into natural tranquility. Poon Hill, popularly known as the Photographer's Paradise and situated at 3200 meters above sea level, overlooks the Dhaulagiri and Annapurna ranges. This trek is designed for those who are looking for a quick trip and wish to take full advantage of their visit.

The trek starts from Pokhara, a city 200 km West of Kathmandu. On the way to Poon Hill, you will witness perennial rivers, that originate from the mountains themselves and forests that are inhabited by several species of birds and animals. The phenomenal view of sunrise from Poon Hill is one of the main highlights of this trek, with the early morning's sunlight hitting the snowy peaks and creating an amazing photo opportunity.

The trail is also filled with several settlements of indigenous Magar and Gurung communities that will provide you with food and lodging along the way. Get the opportunity to observe the local culture at Ulleri, Ghorepani and Ghanrduk.

“This hike was amazing. Is was my first hike ever so the last few days were a bit tough but still not as tough as I thought it would be. We had amazing views which i really enjoyed in the first few days but is was very rainy and cloudy in the last few days due to the monsoon season. I enjoyed passing the villages with kind locals and seeing so many animals anywhere. With good A/B or B shoes and magnesium powder you will be fine. You can buy water anywere but its mostly bottled. Great hike which I would love to do again in another season. I recommend this hike to anyone who only has a few days or for beginners.”

QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS Find answers to the most frequently asked questions about this tour.
  • How much money do I need to bring with me?

Your personal budget obviously depends on your spending habits and what is included in your trip cost. If accommodation is included, but meals are not, we would suggest that you bring around 30 USD per day per person for meals. Having a hot shower or charging your device sometimes costs extra. There are also sometimes small crafts/souvenirs to buy along the trekking route which you may want to bring extra money for. Also, consider whether you would be staying in Kathmandu or Pokhara before or after your trek.

  • How much should my backpack weigh?

A properly packed backpack (not including your day pack) should ideally not weigh more than 13 kg. It is also important to note that if you are taking a flight to the start of your trek, many smaller aircraft have weight restrictions. For example, if you are flying from Kathmandu to Lukla, you are only allowed 10kg of checked luggage, and 5 kg of hand baggage. Thus, in case of a small flight, you should ideally pack a 10 kg backpack for checked luggage, and then add 5 kg in your hand baggage. You can then re-shuffel the weigt once you start your trek at the trailhead.

  • Do I need a porter?

The decision to hire a porter is up to you and usually based on your fitness level and/or budget. One porter can be shared between two people and can carry up to 25 kg. Many trekkers hire a porter to have a more comfortable trek.

  • Do I require a porter for carrying water?

On most popular treks you can expect plenty of places where you can refill your water bottle, meaning you don’t need to carry a huge water supply with you. Bring an extra bottle of water if you are concerned. If you already have a porter, you can ask him/her to carry water as long as it is within the weight limit. Another option is to carry water purification tablets or LifeStraw, both of which can be found in Kathmandu.

  • When should I arrive in Kathmandu before the tour?

We suggest that you arrive at least one day prior to the start day of the trek because the tour operators usually require one working day to arrange trekking permits. Arrive earlier if you want to explore Kathmandu on your own or acclimate to any time differences.
