5 - Excellent
“The perfect first contact with Nepal. This was my first trek in Nepal, can't think in any better choice. Including few days at Katmandu and Pokhara. Trek is amazing starting at rural Nepal and moving over the mountains. I went on May, and clime was really fine.”
Lali's review for another Buddha Treks and Expedition tour
5 - Excellent
Review for another Buddha Treks and Expedition tour
3 - Average
“I was satisfied with Buddha Trekking and Expedition prompt email correspondence, meet / greet at airport, transfers to and from hotel and the trekking guide. I was very disappointed with the chosen climbing guide that took over at Island Peak Base camp. He was arrogant and dismissive when I needed to take a break to drink some; while crossing the glacier and being short ropped together he tugged on the rope as to say that I was walking too slow which caused me to stumble and fall several times which is particularly dangerous when walking on glaciers riddled with crevasses. I would rate this high if better care was taken in which mountain guides are used.”

“Dear Tyrone,
Greeting from Buddha Treks!

Thanks you very much for contacting us to organize your holidays in Nepal. We highly appreciate an opportunity and your trust on us.

We apologize to know that you did not have good experience with climbing guide, we have provided. Normally, he used to work sincerely and honest on his duty. Therefore, we have used him. We appreciate your review about him. It is nice to know so we will have an opportunity to correct errors in the future. We defiantly correct it.

With best regards!

The journey of a lifetime begins as you leave Kathmandu and head north to the Tibetan border. This is the region of the high Himalayas, and your trip passes between the snow-covered peaks of the Langtang and Ganesh Himal ranges. Along the way, pass picturesque waterfalls and terraced farms that literally hang off the sides of the mountains. The journey takes you through the beautiful village of Syrabrubesi before arriving at the border crossing of Rasuwagadhi. We cross the border into Tibet and travel to our first stop of Kerung at a local guest house for the night.

We are entering in the high plateau of Tibet with its awesome scenery. This is farm country in the shadows of Mt. Shisapangma (elev. 8,013 m), the 14th highest highest mountain. It is a day of high mountains as you begin to see excellent view of Mt. Everest and Mt. Cho-Oyo (1st and 6th highest peaks, respectively).

The journey takes around six hours until arriving at Shegar (a/k/a New Tingri) where we will spend the night.

The roads in Tibet are well built and wonderfully smooth as we make our way to Shigatse, the second largest city in Tibet. The region features some lovely rural farms with fields of wheat and barley along with yellow carpet of mustard. Shigatse is a great city with nice hotels and wi-fi where we will spend the night.

Shigatse is home of the Tashilumpo Monastery with its golden roof. It is home to the second most important lama (known as the Panchen Lama) in Tibet, who ranks just behind the Dalai Lama. The monastery is colorful and features several stupas that are tombs of many of the late Panchen Lamas.

Following the tour of Tashlumpo, our journey takes us next to the city of Gyantse which flourished as a major trading center between Nepal, Bhutan and Sikkim. It’s just three hours to Gyantse, giving us time to tour the Old Phalkor Monastery, renown for its terracotta stupa of Kumbum. We will spend the night in this lovely Tibetan city.

We are entering the highlands as the road takes us to the fabled city of Lhasa. The city is the highest capital city in the world. The road today winds upwards to Karo-La Pass with an elevation of 5,050 m, making it one of the highest mountain road passes in the world. We see the peaks of the Nzongkhangsa Range (elevations of 7100 meters) with its ice falls and glaciers. Along the way we observe the famed Drokpa nomads with their yak herds, living as they have for centuries.

One of the highlights of the Tibet on a Budget Trip is seeing beautiful Yamdrok Tsho with its turquoise waters fed by Himalayan glaciers. We soon cross Khamba-La Pass (elev. 4800 m) with more scenic views of the Himalayas and the Tibetan plateau.

We begin to see in the distance today’s destination: the fabled city of Lhasa. We arrive and spend the night in the old quarter with its colorful bazaars.

Lhasa is an ancient city. Not only is it the capital of Tibet, but also the center of spirituality for the Tibetan people. It is here that the various Dalai Lamas ruled in a theocracy for centuries.

Following breakfast, we travel a short distance to the ancient Drepung Monastery that served as the seat of government before the amazing Potala Palace was constructed in Lhasa. The monastery’s whitewashed buildings come into view long before our arrival. Here young monks still continue to debate as they prepare for the priesthood. We also will visit the Sera Monastery as well as to enjoy the local culture before returning to our hotel in Lhasa.

It’s the second day of sightseeing in Lhasa and we’ve saved the best for last. Today we visit the Potala Palace. Built into the side of the hill overlooking the Yarlung Tsangpo/Brahmaputra River, it contains over 1000 rooms. It’s name means “Heavenly Realm) and with its whitewashed exterior and over 10,000 shrines, it indeed looks like a taste of heaven.

On this final day of sightseeing in Lhasa, we will visit Jokhang Temple, the oldest religious site in Tibet along with the famed Barkhor Market. The market is known for its amazing sights and smells. There will be free time today to explore Lhasa on your own in the afternoon.

It’s just a 75 minute flight from Lhasa to Kathmandu, but what a flight! From your window, see Mt. Everest and the snowcapped peaks of the Himalayas as your Air China flight wings its way to the capital city of Nepal.

The journey to Gonggar airport from Lhasa takes almost as long as the flight itself! The Chinese government built a beautiful modern airport outside of Lhasa with good road to reach it.

Upon arrival in Kathmandu, you will be transferred to your hotel where you will have free time to do shopping or sightseeing on your own.

The Tibet on a Budget Tour is a fun, exciting and a low cost way to see the fabled land of Tibet. It is a new program created by Buddha Treks & Expedition, who has years of experience in working in Nepal and Tibet, creating great tours with knowledgeable guides for the ultimate of Himalayan experiences. Plan to book other tours with Buddha Treks & Expedition as you continue to explore the lands of the world’s highest mountains.

Other Practical Information
CHINESE VISA
Tibet is under Chinese jurisdiction, so you are required to hold a valid Chinese visa (issued by a Chinese Embassy), as well as a valid passport. If you are coming to Lhasa from Kathmandu, it is advised to get a Chinese visa from Kathmandu (regardless of whether you already have a Chinese visa issued in your country) as a special administrative situation exists between China and Nepal.

TIBET TRAVEL PERMITS
There are two kinds of permits issued for traveling in Tibet: the entry permit (TTB permit, equivalent of a visa for Tibet) and the Alien travel permit (PSB permit). Travel Agency provides both types of permit.

TTB PERMIT - TIBET ENTRY PERMIT
When you fly into Lhasa you will need to show this permit when checking in at the airport. Also, in order to buy a flight to Lhasa in the first place you will need to show this permit. TTB permits are also needed by groups traveling by Land Cruiser, but this will be arranged by the travel agency organizing the trip.

PSB PERMIT - ALIEN TRAVEL PERMIT
If you want to travel restricted areas in Tibet, you will need an Alien travel permit issued by the PSB (Public Security Bureau) of Tibet. The Alien travel permit is also sometimes referred to as the PSB permit.

Following personal detail and photocopy of passport are required minimum 30 prior trip date to procedure visa and travel documents for Tibet: full name, gender, date of birth, passport number, nationality. All information must be exactly the same as in your passport. In addition, we will need to know your occupation, as journalists and government officials/political personnel may require more complicated procedures in order to be issued a permit. Please be advised that you need to apply for the travel permit at least 15 days prior to your entry date.
CancellationFree cancellation up to 45 days prior departure, but the 20% deposit paid is non-refundable. No refund applicable within 45 days of departure.
