HIGHLIGHTS
  • Climb Mera Peak, officially the highest of Nepal’s 'trekking peaks'
  • Enjoy stunning views of five mountains that are over 8,000 meters
  • Explore wild, uninhabited and beautiful Hongu and Hinku valleys
  • Discover the culture and tradition of the Sherpa people
Mera Peak, officially the highest among the so-called 'trekking peaks' permitted for climbing in Nepal, rises to the south of Mount Everest and dominates the area between the uninhabited valleys of Hinku and Honku. This peak offers an authentic mountaineering adventure with thrilling insights of Nepal's Everest and Khumbu regions. An excellent option for those seeking an adventurous and memorable trekking experience in the Everest region, the journey to the top of this mountain also offers the chance to discover the rich culture of the Sherpa people and encounter a variety of flora and fauna along the way.

This peak was first climbed on 20 May 1953 by J.O.M. Roberts and Sen Tenzing. However, the first proper ascent of Mera Peak was made in 1975 by French climbers Marcel Jolly, G. Baus and C. Honnis. The trio mostly followed the same route as Roberts, except for traversing a ridge to reach the summit.

A large number of climbers choose Mera Peak as part of their climbing adventures as well as to enjoy the stunning scenery of Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, Cho Oyu, Makalu, Amadablam and many other snow-capped peaks in the Himalayas.

This trip begins with a scenic flight from Kathmandu to Lukla, the gateway to Khumbu and the entire Everest region of Nepal. After landing in Lukla, we start our trek over an ascending trail towards untouched and less-crowded valleys. The trail passes through several charming villages, frozen waterfalls, dense forests and farmlands with spectacular scenery.

Allow yourself some time for acclimatization upon reaching Mera Peak Base Camp and prepare for the climb. Fully acclimatized and properly equipped with all the necessary climbing gear, you will then follow an experienced climbing expert and tackle technical sections of the peak as you head towards the summit. Enjoy a panoramic views of Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, Cho Oyu, Makalu, Amadablam and many other peaks in the Everest region on reaching the summit.

Spend a while at the summit before following the same route downhill and retrace your steps back to Lukla. Our memorable journey ends with a flight from Lukla back to Kathmandu.

Please note that this Mera Peak climbing trip involves climbing the Central Mera Peak (6,461m). There are two other faces of the peak – North Mera (6,476m) and South Mera (6,064m). We can also operate climbing trips for these faces as per your request. Please do not hesitate to click on the 'Make an Enquiry' button if you have any queries.

During the camping trip, while we are in Mera Peak Base Camp and Mera Peak High Camp, our kitchen team will prepare hygienic food for you. There might not be several choices of food at the camp as in the tea houses and restaurants. This is because our crew has to carry all camping gear and kitchen equipment. However, we will provide as much services and facilities as we can to make your adventure holiday as amazing as possible. Physical condition and experience required: Mera Peak Climbing is a technical adventure activity in Nepal which requires previous trekking experience and technical skills about peak climbing gear for successful summit. The trip is very suitable for adventure motivated trekkers who have the ability to hike through snowy ridges and adventurous trails. Walking in high altitudes increases the chance of high altitude sickness. Therefore, a slow and steady walk is the perfect solution. We suggest every trekker who is planning to come to Nepal for trekking adventure to spend around one hour exercising everyday (jogging, hiking, cycling, gym, etc) for at least two weeks before the trek. Best Season for Mera Peak Climbing: Peak climbing in Nepal is seasonal. Basically, the three autumn months of September, October & November as well as the three spring months of March, April and May are the best times for climbing Mera Peak. The weather is mostly clear, sunny and warm in the Himalayas during this time. Nevertheless, some adventure seekers who do not like a crowded environment choose December, January, and February months for this trip. We suggest that you avoid the monsoon season (June, July and August) as your trip will most likely be ruined by rains during this time. Equipment Required For Climbing: Below is a list of equipment you need for peak climbing. While you need to carry some of these equipment with you, we will provide the rest. You can also buy and rent your personal equipment in Kathmandu. Footwear Trekking boots, thick socks, light socks and camp shoes.
