  • Mera Peak is officially the highest of Nepal’s permitted trekking peaks
  • Offers stunning views of 5 mountains over 8000 meters altitude
  • Explore the wild, uninhabited and beautiful Hongu and Hinku valleys
  • Experience the culture and traditions of highland Sherpa tribal communities
Mera Peak is officially the highest so-called "trekking peak" of the peaks that are permitted for climbing in Nepal. It offers an authentic mountaineering adventure with thrilling insights of the Everest and Khumbu regions of Nepal. The peak rises to the south of Everest and dominates the area between the uninhabited valleys of Hinku and Honku. This is an excellent option for those seeking an adventurous and memorable trekking experience in the Everest region. One gets to visit highland Sherpa cultural villages and explore Buddhist monasteries, mountain glaciers and the rich flora and fauna of Sagarmatha (Everest) National Park.

Mera Peak was first climbed on 20 May 1953 by J.O.M. Roberts and Sen Tenzing. However, the first proper ascent of Mera Peak was made in 1975, by the French climbers Marcel Jolly, G. Baus and C.Honnis following the same route as Roberts but traversing along the connecting ridge to reach the summit.

A large number of climbers choose Mera Peak because it offers unlimited climbing adventures as well as stunning scenery of Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, Cho Oyu, Makalu, Amadablam and many other snow-capped peaks inside the Sagarmatha (Everest) National Park.

The climbing tour begins with a scenic mountain flight from Kathmandu to Lukla. Lukla is the gateway to Khumbu and entire Everest region of Nepal. After landing at Lukla, we start our trek over an ascending trail towards untouched and less crowded valleys. Our trek passes through several charming villages, frozen waterfalls, dense forests and agricultural farmlands with spectacular scenery until we reach Mera Peak Base Camp.

At the Base Camp, we will spend some time for acclimatization and prepare for the Mera Peak climb. Once we are fully acclimatized and properly equipped with all the necessary climbing gears, we will follow an experienced climbing expert and tackle technical sections of the peak as we head towards the summit. Our tiring climb to the summit is rewarded with sensational views of Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, Cho Oyu, Makalu, Amadablam and many other peaks within Everest region.

We will spend a short amount of time at the summit and descend down following the same route. For our return journey, we will retrace our steps back to reach Lukla. Our memorable journey ends with a scenic flight from Lukla back to Kathmandu.

Note:
Usually, this Mera peak climbing tour involves climbing the Central Mera Peak (6461m). There are two other faces of Mera Peak – North Mera (6476m) and South Mera (6064m). We can also operate climbing trips for these faces as per your request as well. Please do not hesitate to click the 'Make an Enquiry' if you have any questions.

“Me and my friend completed the Mera Peak Climbing with guide Krishna and our porter Lakpa.
It was an amazing experience and they were great from start to finish. Very friendly and helpful and we got along with them very well. At night it was bit too cold but the surroundings were very fascinating. Climbing to the top was difficult with many loose stones but was amazing.
The trip was well organized right from the airport pick up, and the days were flexible to suit our walking speed.
I would highly recommend and will never forget the trip”

Good to know
Meals: In general, our package trip of Mera Peak Climbing covers inclusive of all meals – Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner during the entire trekking and Breakfast plan in Kathmandu. We will have Dinner and Breakfast in the same tea house/Camp where we spend the night and Lunch will be served en-route of trekking towards next destination since we have to leave our accommodation after breakfast to continue the trek. You can enjoy the taste of varieties of cuisines; Nepali food, Tibetan, Continental, Indian, Italian etc., by choosing from the menu. During the camping trip while we are in Mera Peak Base Camp and Mera Peak High Camp, our kitchen team will prepare hygienic foods to serve you. There might not be several choices of foods during the camp as in the tea houses and restaurants; as our crew has to carry all camping gears and kitchen equipments from available places but we are sure we will provide as much services and facilities as we can do to make your adventure holiday as amazing as possible. Physical Conditions and Experience Required: Mera Peak Climbing is a technical adventure activity in Nepal which requires previous trekking experience and technical skills about peak climbing gears to have successful summit. The trip is very suitable for adventure motivated trekkers who have ability to walk in snowy ridges and adventurous trails. Walking in high altitudes might attract by high altitude sickness, slow and steady walk would be the perfect solution. We suggest every trekker who are planning to come to Nepal for trekking adventure to do daily around an hour physical workout (jogging, hiking, cycling, gym, etc) for at least two weeks before the trek. Best Season for Mera Peak Climbing: Peak Climbing in a Nepalese mountain is seasonal. Basically, the 3 months in autumn – September, October & November and the 3 months in spring – March, April & May are the best times for climbing Mera Peak. The weather would be clear, sunny and warm in the Himalayas, and thus, we can have great views of mountains. Nevertheless, some adventure-seekers who don't like a crowded environment also can choose December, January, and February months for this trip. The Monsoon season experience (June, July, and August) will be ruined by rains. Equipments Required For Climbing: We require several equipments to have every peak climbing experience in Nepal. Here is a list of equipment you need. Some need to be brought by you, and we provide the rest. You can also buy and rent your personal equipment in Kathmandu. Footwear: Trekking Boots, thick socks, light socks, camp shoes. Climbing Equipment: Ice Axe, crampons, harness, carabiner (with lock and normal), eight fingers, Jumar, plastic boots, etc. These can all be rented in Kathmandu at reasonable prices. Clothing: Down or fibre Jacket, filled waterproof jacket and trousers, sweater or fleece jacket, warm cotton trousers, shirts and T-shirts, shorts, long underwear, wool hat, sun hat, gloves, bathing suit, track suit. Other equipment: Sleeping bag (4 seasons), down jacket, day pack, water bottle, sun cream, sunglasses, flashlight with spare bulbs and batteries, lip salve, gaiters. • 3 When you feel that your trip is exactly per your wish, you'll be able to book the entire trip here on Bookmundi.
The Advantages of Bookmundi
  • Selected Local Travel Experts All our local travel experts have been chosen based on rigorous selection criteria. In fact, we reject 98 out of 100 local travel agencies, and thereby giving you access to the top 1-2% local travel experts.
  • Secure Online Payment and Financial Guarantee Each and every trip is required to go through Bookmundi's secure payment platform, powered by Stripe and supported by SSL. All payments are therefore carried out in secure manners. We are furthermore member of the Danish Travel Fund which gives you a 100% financial guarantee for any money you pay on Bookmundi, even if we went bankrupt (which we we will not!).
  • Trip Replacement or 100% Reimbursement Bookmundi has hand-picked your local travel expert. Our role, as your trusted third party, is therefore to make sure that your entire experience runs as seamless and secure as possible. We guarantee to you that in the unlikely event where a local travel expert cancels your trip after your deposit or full payment has been made, we commit to replacing these services with another equally qualified agency so that your trip can go ahead as planned, or failing to replace it, we will give you a 100% reimbursement.
