HIGHLIGHTS
  • Enjoy trekking through the Manaslu Circuit
  • Discover one of the least visited trekking routes in Nepal
  • See Mount Manaslu and other peaks in the Himalayas
Unlike Everest Base Camp trek, which has been popular ever since the mountain was first summited, Manaslu Circuit receives far fewer footfall primarily because the region was officially opened to tourists only in 1991. The area around the mountain is therefore better preserved and offers an ideal trekking destination to those who have 17 days to spare.

Although your journey starts from Kathmandu, your hiking begins only on reaching Arughat, a six-hour drive from Kathmandu. The highest point of this trek is the Larke Pass, located at an elevation of 5,100 meters. This is also the toughest section of the trek. The fact that this trek has such a variation in terms of elevation also means that you will be passing through lots of different landscapes.

Manaslu trek will provide you with great mountain views, many cultural inputs, unrivalled beauty and a rich bio diversity. Mount Manaslu (8,156m) is the eighth highest peak in the world and located near the Tibet-Nepal border.

Although challenging, Manaslu trek is worthwile for those that can hike for up to six hours a day, are determined and in a reasonably good shape. If in doubt, we recommend booking a porter to carry your belongings. That will relieve you of the weight of your backpack, which normally amounts between 13 to 15 kilograms.

This Manaslu trek takes you through a restricted trekking area and can only be done by two or more people.

Review of Manaslu Circuit trek
Spectacular scenery and much more variety than the Everest Base Camp trek I did back in 2005. Also much more challenging since you start at 800 m and climb to 5,100m.

QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS Find answers to the most frequently asked questions about this tour.
  • What is the required budget for a trip to Nepal?

How much you spend in Nepal is largely decided by things you want to do in the country. A 5-day trekking trip in Nepal can start from as little at USD 400 per person. A weekend-long safari in Chitwan National Park is available at less than USD 200.

On average, seven days in Nepal with accommodation and some or all meals included costs anywhere between USD 700 to USD 1500 per person. Good rooms at hotels in Nepal range from USD 25 to over USD 150 per person, per night, while around USD 1.5 a day can buy you three meals in decent restaurants.

  • Is a visa on arrival available?

Typically, yes. However, in response to the current Covid situation, rules for arriving visitors may change frequently and sometimes without notice. It may be necessary to obtain a tourist visa in your own country before travel. For updated information on visas, please check the Nepal Tourism Board and the Government of Nepal Immigration websites.

  • How does it work with a porter?

Generally, the porter will pick up the baggage in the morning and drop it at the hotel in the evening. You will not always be walking with your porter or have access to your bag during the day, while trekking.

  • Is Asia open for tourists?

Despite the initial fears of the Covid-19 pandemic, most Asian countries have managed to mitigate its effects. As such, many popular destinations throughout the continent are currently open for travelers with precautionary measures like mandatory vaccinations. A few countries, however, require newly arrived travelers to spend a couple of days in quarantine.

As of February 2022, countries like Thailand, Laos, and Cambodia are officially open for vaccinated tourists without the need for quarantine. Meanwhile, India and Indonesia are two of the countries that may require you to quarantine for up to a week on arrival. However, Japan, Vietnam, and Myanmar are yet to open their doors to visitors.

  • How much money do I need to bring with me?

Your personal budget obviously depends on your spending habits and what is included in your trip cost. If accommodation is included, but meals are not, we would suggest that you bring around 30 USD per day per person for meals. Having a hot shower or charging your device sometimes costs extra. There are also sometimes small crafts/souvenirs to buy along the trekking route which you may want to bring extra money for. Also, consider whether you would be staying in Kathmandu or Pokhara before or after your trek.
