HIGHLIGHTS
  • See some of the major highlights of Kathmandu during a guided city tour
  • Spend 1 day in Namche Bazaar, the centre of trade & commerce in the Khumbu region
  • Trek to the majestic Gokyo Valley. See the 6 sacred lakes
  • Climb to the top of Gokyo Ri, enjoy majestic views of the Himalayas
Join us on this 15-day guided trek to the Gokyo Valley that is is popular as an alternative to the Everest Base Camp trek. We will pick you up upon arrival in Kathmandu and drive you to your hotel. Enjoy a guided sightseeing tour of Kathmandu city on the second day of the trip.

Time to head to the mountains. We will drive you to the airport for a flight to Lukla. Your journey begins now. Take the Everest Base Camp trail and trek to Phakding followed by Namche Bazaar, the centre of trade and commerce in the Khumbu region.

Leave the EBC trail behind and head for Phortse Thenga followed by Machherma after which you reach Gokyo, the village of six sacred lakes located on a moraine close to the Ngozumpa Glacier. Explore the Gokyo area before heading to Gokyo Ri, a 5,357m high peak in the Khumbu region. See Cho Oyu, Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, Cholatse and Taboche, among other mountains.

Descend to Lukla following the same route. This spectacular, two-week climb takes you to an altitude almost as high as that of Everest Base Camp and offers jaw-dropping views of the Himalayas. However, the trail to Gokyo is less crowded and quieter with traditional Sherpa villages serving local meals to legions of hungry trekkers. The trail follows the Dudh Kosi River to its source - a series of emerald green lakes.

QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS Find answers to the most frequently asked questions about this tour.
  • What is the required budget for a trip to Nepal?

How much you spend in Nepal is largely decided by things you want to do in the country. A 5-day trekking trip in Nepal can start from as little at USD 400 per person. A weekend-long safari in Chitwan National Park is available at less than USD 200.

On average, seven days in Nepal with accommodation and some or all meals included costs anywhere between USD 700 to USD 1500 per person. Good rooms at hotels in Nepal range from USD 25 to over USD 150 per person, per night, while around USD 1.5 a day can buy you three meals in decent restaurants.

  • Is a visa on arrival available?

Typically, yes. However, in response to the current Covid situation, rules for arriving visitors may change frequently and sometimes without notice. It may be necessary to obtain a tourist visa in your own country before travel. For updated information on visas, please check the Nepal Tourism Board and the Government of Nepal Immigration websites.

  • How does it work with a porter?

Generally, the porter will pick up the baggage in the morning and drop it at the hotel in the evening. You will not always be walking with your porter or have access to your bag during the day, while trekking.

  • Is Asia open for tourists?

Despite the initial fears of the Covid-19 pandemic, most Asian countries have managed to mitigate its effects. As such, many popular destinations throughout the continent are currently open for travelers with precautionary measures like mandatory vaccinations. A few countries, however, require newly arrived travelers to spend a couple of days in quarantine.

As of February 2022, countries like Thailand, Laos, and Cambodia are officially open for vaccinated tourists without the need for quarantine. Meanwhile, India and Indonesia are two of the countries that may require you to quarantine for up to a week on arrival. However, Japan, Vietnam, and Myanmar are yet to open their doors to visitors.

  • How much money do I need to bring with me?

Your personal budget obviously depends on your spending habits and what is included in your trip cost. If accommodation is included, but meals are not, we would suggest that you bring around 30 USD per day per person for meals. Having a hot shower or charging your device sometimes costs extra. There are also sometimes small crafts/souvenirs to buy along the trekking route which you may want to bring extra money for. Also, consider whether you would be staying in Kathmandu or Pokhara before or after your trek.
