The Everest base camp and Gokyo lake trek, also known as Cho La Pass trek, is one of the most adventurous treks in the Everest Himalayas. The trek follows the Everest Base Camp route for the first few days and then heads out to the Cho La Pass at 5330 meters and Gokyo. This is a unique trek that encompasses visits to Lukla, Namche Bazaar, the beautiful waters of the Gokyo Lakes and the heights of Cho La Pass, Kala Patthar and Mount Everest Base Camp.

It leads you through traditional Sherpa villages in the foothills of some the highest peaks in the world. The route also crosses the fast flowing Dudh Koshi River and visits its source; the Gokyo Lakes, where you will also have the opportunity to summit Gokyo Peak (5483 meters) offering astonishing, panoramic views of Mt. Cho Oyo, Mt. Everest and Mt. Makalu.

The route also heads to Everest Base Camp and Kala Patthar, another chance to summit a Himalayan peak to achieve unparalleled views of Mount Everest and the surrounding mountain giants.

Icefalls, glaciers, the world’s highest Buddhist monastery at Tyagnboche and unimaginable views of some of the world’s “eight thousanders” are all on offer on this truly spectacular trekking route. You will return home having accomplished the ascent of two peaks, challenging trails and reaching the base of the highest mountain in the world, all whilst witnessing some of the most captivating scenery, insurmountable anywhere else in the world.

QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS Find answers to the most frequently asked questions about this tour.
  • What is the required budget for a trip to Nepal?

How much you spend in Nepal is largely decided by things you want to do in the country. A 5-day trekking trip in Nepal can start from as little at USD 400 per person. A weekend-long safari in Chitwan National Park is available at less than USD 200.

On average, seven days in Nepal with accommodation and some or all meals included costs anywhere between USD 700 to USD 1500 per person. Good rooms at hotels in Nepal range from USD 25 to over USD 150 per person, per night, while around USD 1.5 a day can buy you three meals in decent restaurants.

  • Is a visa on arrival available?

Typically, yes. However, in response to the current Covid situation, rules for arriving visitors may change frequently and sometimes without notice. It may be necessary to obtain a tourist visa in your own country before travel. For updated information on visas, please check the Nepal Tourism Board and the Government of Nepal Immigration websites.

  • How does it work with a porter?

Generally, the porter will pick up the baggage in the morning and drop it at the hotel in the evening. You will not always be walking with your porter or have access to your bag during the day, while trekking.

  • Is Asia open for tourists?

Despite the initial fears of the Covid-19 pandemic, most Asian countries have managed to mitigate its effects. As such, many popular destinations throughout the continent are currently open for travelers with precautionary measures like mandatory vaccinations. A few countries, however, require newly arrived travelers to spend a couple of days in quarantine.

As of February 2022, countries like Thailand, Laos, and Cambodia are officially open for vaccinated tourists without the need for quarantine. Meanwhile, India and Indonesia are two of the countries that may require you to quarantine for up to a week on arrival. However, Japan, Vietnam, and Myanmar are yet to open their doors to visitors.

  • How much money do I need to bring with me?

Your personal budget obviously depends on your spending habits and what is included in your trip cost. If accommodation is included, but meals are not, we would suggest that you bring around 30 USD per day per person for meals. Having a hot shower or charging your device sometimes costs extra. There are also sometimes small crafts/souvenirs to buy along the trekking route which you may want to bring extra money for. Also, consider whether you would be staying in Kathmandu or Pokhara before or after your trek.
