highlights
  • Hike to the famous Poon Hill Viewpoint for a magnificent sunrise
  • Experience the incredible Annapurna views combined with great local culture
  • Discover picturesque villages of the Gurung and Magar people
Everyone's favourite place in the Himalayas is not Everest: instead, it is the amazing Annapurna Mountains in western Nepal. While not as high in elevation as the Everest region, this compact alpine region contains some of the finest views in all the Himalayas. Nonetheless, the Annapurnas don’t lack for tall mountains; Mt. Annapurna I is the 10th highest mountain in the world. Besides Annapurna I, there is Mt. Dhaulagiri (7th highest) and Mt. Manaslu (8th highest) plus numerous other mountains.

What sets the Annapurnas apart is natural beauty combined with local culture. The region is home to picturesque villages of the Gurung and Magar people who have called this place home for over a millennium. There are fast flowing rivers, incredible waterfalls that spring off the mountains and colourful wildflowers. The local people are very friendly and most welcoming.

What separates this trip from others is the famous sunrise from Poon Hill. Situated at 3,210 meters, Poon Hill is the most famous place in the Himalayas to watch a sunrise, seeing the massive peaks go from grey to reddish orange and finally a brilliant white. There is nothing like it.

This is a short trek of just five days of actual trekking. It is a low-elevation trek of moderate exertion and maximum elevation at Poon Hill. The tour includes sightseeing in both Kathmandu as well as the lakeside city of Pokhara which is the crown jewel of the cities in the Himalayas.

This is the perfect trip for anyone who wants to experience incredible mountain scenery combined with great local culture. We are pleased to be able to offer this Amazing Annapurna Panorama Trek to you!

“For me was the first time visiting Nepal, the Trek is not as demanding as others that you need to sleep in tents everyday. I had never made a long trek before and this was a very good way of admiring the absolutely amazing views of the Anapurnnas and now I am much more well trained for more adventures. Was really a nice experience, I think will come again to make a longer one in a while.”

From here, travel to the ancient city of Patan to view its Durbar Square and ancient temples. We leave the capital city of Nepal after breakfast in the early morning, taking a first class tourist bus to the lakeside city of Pokhara. It’s about a six-hour journey, and it passes through the Trisuli River valley before crossing this world-class rafting river and heading westward to Pokhara. Arrive in Pokhara at your hotel and enjoy dining out at Lakeside with its many restaurants and fun nightlife.

We rise and take a car to Nayapul, the starting point of our trek into the Annapurnas. We begin trekking at Nayapul, rising in elevation as we pass through a variety of vegetation from sub-tropical to almost alpine. We arrive at the village of Tikhedunga to spend the night at a tea house. Great views of the mountains along the way.
Guest house
Our destination is the village of Ghorepani, famous for its waters on the main salt road to Tibet. Today’s trail climbs the stone steps that the local village development committees have installed to aid in travel. These steps were built for donkeys and humans as these are the highways of the Himalayas. There are lush forests and crystal clear streams along the way as we pass through beautiful villages with terraced fields. We will spend the night in Ghorepani.

We will rise well before sunrise to make our way to the top of Poon Hill (elev. 3,210 m
/10,531 ft.) to witness the Himalayas’ most famous sunrise. We stand in the early morning as the first rays of the effulgent sun begin to shoot above the mountains. The peaks are grey at first, then they begin to turn reddish orange as the sun continues to rise. Finally, the snowcapped peaks turn a brilliant white as the sun rises above the mountains. From here, we can see a number of high peaks, including Manaslu and Dhaulagiri.

From Poon Hill, we return for breakfast in Ghorepani, and then make our way to the village of Tadapani. It’s about five hours of trekking to reach our tea house for the night.
Guest house
Today we are descending, but along the way we will have many opportunities to see the snowcapped peaks of the Annapurnas. We will pass through the village of Chame to reach the Gurung village of Ghandruk. The Gurungs are the famous soldiers of the Gurkhas in the British and Indian armies. Known as fierce fighters, you wouldn’t know it when you meet them in their villages. They are also known for exquisite hospitality with big smiles and open arms. Enjoy the night at a tea house in Ghandruk.
3 Star Hotel
It’s the final day of trekking as we continue downhill to reach the village of Birethanti. Here we pick up local transportation back to the city of Pokhara where we will spend the night at a nice hotel where you can get a hot shower.
3 Star Hotel
For many people, Pokhara is the highlight of a trip into the Himalayas. Located on the eastern shore of Phewa Lake, this city is nestled at the edge of the Annapurnas. From here, the mountains overshadow the city. We will travel in the morning to see the sunrise from Sarangkot Hill. We will take in Devi Falls and then go across the street and into the earth to visit the cave temple. There will be an opportunity to go boating on Phewa Lake and visit the sacred temple on the only island within the lake. See the Seti Gorge, walk into Mahendra Cave, visit sacred temples and much more as you see the sights in Pokhara. Return to your hotel for the evening.
3 Star Hotel
Say goodbye to Pokhara as your first class luxury bus takes you back to your hotel in Kathmandu.
3 Star Hotel
There is so much more to see in the Kathmandu Valley, and today, we will journey to the ancient city of Bhatkapur. This was once its own kingdom and today the entire city has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. There will be a visit to Boudanath, the largest Buddhist Stupa in Asia which houses the largest Tibetan refugee settlement in Nepal. Spend the night at your hotel.
After checking out of your hotel, travel to the airport to catch your flight to your next destination. Before leaving, be sure to discuss other trips in Nepal and the surrounding countries with your friends at Buddha Treks & Expedition.

Good to know
A TYPICAL TREKKING DAY A typical day revolves around the Nepal sunrise and sunset, rather than any Western time schedule. The day starts with an early wakeup call. You then pack up your gear and enjoy a rousing breakfast before starting your morning’s walk. The sirdar will already be organized and have assigned loads to porters and your group will then set off on the trail at a leisurely pace, enjoying the view and stopping to take photographs. After 2-3 hours walk you stop for lunch. This lasts for about 90 minutes which gives you time to relax, or explore the local village. The afternoon’s walk is usually shorter and we arrive at the campsite or tea-house in plenty of time to relax and savor the surroundings. Later in the evening dinner is served, giving you an opportunity to sample the delicious food, talk over the day’s events, and look forward to another special day on the trails of Nepal. HEALTH ISSUES We recommend that all clients consult their doctor to discuss the health issues associated with their trek. We also recommend that clients bring their own personal first aid kit to supplement the comprehensive first aid kit carried by the Trek Leader. VACCINATIONS REQUIRED Please ensure that you allow at least 1 month to complete a course of vaccinations. Whilst your personal doctor will be the final authority, we recommend the following : • Poliomyelitis • Typhoid • Tetanus • Rabies • Meningococcal • Immunoglobulin (for Hepatitis A) MALARIA Nepal is listed as a country for which malaria prophylaxis is advised. We will not be visiting any malarial areas on the treks, however you may wish to consult your doctor about the need to take malaria pills. Trekkers who plan to do rafting and jungle excursions are advised to take the necessary medication to protect against malaria. ALTITUDE SICKNESS Many treks in Nepal can take you quite rapidly to high altitudes, so you need to give your body time to acclimatise. If you ascend faster than your body can acclimatise you will start to develop symptoms of Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS). A headache being the most common symptom, others are nausea, vomiting, fatigue, loss of appetite, dizziness and sleep disturbances. The best way to acclimatise is to ascend slowly and gradually. The common wisdom is that you should take 2-3 days to reach 3000m – If flying in to above this height remember to take extra acclimatisation days (for example flying into Lukla). Once above 3000m, you should sleep no more than around 300m above your last nights altitude, and take a rest day every 3 days (or 1000m). At times it can be difficult to stick exactly to this schedule, as villages aren't always conveniently placed for acclimatising, so you should think of the 300m as an average. During the day it is okay to trek higher as long as you descend to sleep. Remember the mountaineer’s saying "Climb High, Sleep Low". If at any time you get symptoms of AMS you should not climb higher until they are gone. If they persist then you should descend to below the height where they first started. Only start to climb again when they have gone. All of our itineraries allow for a proper acclimatisation schedule, and of course on our private departures you have the freedom to go slower if you are finding it tough - everyone acclimatises at a different rate. Please also consider your guide and porters and watch for signs of AMS in them. They are not immune to AMS. You will find a graph below detailing the acclimatisation schedule. It shows the ideal acclimatisation schedule against suggested itinerary. We always aim to get as close to the ideal as possible taking account of such things as available accommodation and camping spots with water etc. INSURANCE We INSIST that an appropriate insurance policy is taken out which covers travel in isolated and mountainous areas, and which also includes helicopter rescue. We recommend that you consult a reputable insurance agent or insurance specialist. RECOMMENDED EQUIPMENT Footwear: Trekking Boots, thick socks, light socks, camp shoes. Clothing: Down or fibre Jacket, filled waterproof jacket and trousers, sweater or fleece jacket, warm cotton trousers, shirts and T-shirts, shorts, long underwear, wool hat, sun hat, gloves, bathing suit, track suit. Optional: Insect repellent, toilet articles, note book & pen, toilet roll, laundry soap, pocket knife, towel, sewing kit, plasters, binoculars, camera, film, cards and personal medical kit.
