The Annapurna Base Camp trek is one of the most popular trekking destinations in Nepal. Annapurna Base Camp (ABC) is surrounded by towering Himalayan peaks.

Trekking starts from Pokhara with a short drive to Nayapul. We ascend well-trodden trails through terraced farmland and traditional villages. As we climb through ancient oak and rhododendron forest, across sparkling streams and past waterfalls, the World of snow and ice starts to unfold before us. This combination of pretty villages and terraced fields of millet and rice, coupled with the majestic splendor of Machhapuchhre (6,993m), Annapurna I and Hiunchuli (6,441m) make this an extremely rewarding trek.

Climbing up the Modi Khola valley towards the sanctuary we are teased with views of towering peaks and dazzling high rock walls with waterfalls tumbling down into the roar of the river below. As the gorge widens, we ascend to Machhapuchhre Base Camp (3,700m) on the lateral moraine of Annapurna South glacier.

The steady climb up to ABC reveals the full splendor of this natural amphitheater. When we reach our destination, we are spoiled with 360 degree view of Himalayan peaks. We walk out along a different route to our approach and enjoy the views of Annapurna-I from a different angle. A short diversion up to Poonhill (3,210m) before leaving the Annapurna Conservation Area offers us a chance to obtain great views of another Himalayan giant - Dhaulagiri (8,167m). The sunrise views from here are legendary.

Beautiful trek with an excellent guide and trekking company

“The Annapurna base camp trek is a beautiful 10 day hike (plus two travel days) through a mix of scenery including dense forest, tiny villages and high mountains. Views over the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges from Poon Hill are spectacular, and seeing the mountains up close on the way to and at Annapurna Base Camp (ABC) was amazing. The teahouses are comfortable, though they become more basic as you get further from the roads and closer to ABC. Food is available throughout the hike and generally good with a mix of Nepali, Chinese and Western dishes available at most teahouses.

A mild warning, I would only recommend this hike to people with a good fitness level as a typical day can be around 6 hours of hiking (excluding lunch and rest stops) and involves a lot of stairs. Total ascent and descent are much larger than the net elevation change indicated by the start and finish elevations each day, as you frequently descend completely to the base of a valley only to climb the other side. Do not attempt with a knee injury or after recent knee surgery etc. Practice stair climbing before you go!”

How our Travel Expert Service Works
  • 1 We connect you with a hand-picked and qualified travel expert who can match your trip requirements. The advantage of working directly through a travel expert is that you get the best and unfiltered advice from the very beginning.
  • 2 The travel expert will help you with creating and customising a trip for you. If you have any questions or concerns relating to the trip, the travel expert will also be able to help you with those.
  • 3 When you feel that your trip is exactly per your wish, you'll be able to book the entire trip here on Bookmundi.
The Advantages of Bookmundi
  • Selected Local Travel Experts All our local travel experts have been chosen based on rigorous selection criteria. In fact, we reject 98 out of 100 local travel agencies, and thereby giving you access to the top 1-2% local travel experts.
  • Secure Online Payment and Financial Guarantee Each and every trip is required to go through Bookmundi's secure payment platform, powered by Stripe and supported by SSL. All payments are therefore carried out in secure manners. We are furthermore member of the Danish Travel Fund which gives you a 100% financial guarantee for any money you pay on Bookmundi, even if we went bankrupt (which we we will not!).
  • Trip Replacement or 100% Reimbursement Bookmundi has hand-picked your local travel expert. Our role, as your trusted third party, is therefore to make sure that your entire experience runs as seamless and secure as possible. We guarantee to you that in the unlikely event where a local travel expert cancels your trip after your deposit or full payment has been made, we commit to replacing these services with another equally qualified agency so that your trip can go ahead as planned, or failing to replace it, we will give you a 100% reimbursement.
