Trekking to Everest Base Camp is the adventure of a lifetime and if time is short this is the best Everest trekking option. From the exhilarating flight into Lukla to standing on top of Kala Pattar looking over to Everest itself this is a journey that you will always remember. Your trek follows in the footsteps of the first pioneers, Tenzing and Hillary, as you hike through spectacular scenery following the Khumbu Valley before finally arriving at Base Camp itself.

Our lodge-based trek follows faithfully in the footsteps of Edmund Hillary allowing plenty of time to acclimatise properly and enjoy the views. The trek starts with the roller-coaster flight into Lukla: make sure you sit on the left for your first great views of the Everest region.

The landing at Lukla can be a white knuckle affair but the pilots are incredibly skillful dropping the plane down onto a short steep runway.

Once your crew is assembled you start your trek passing through Sherpa villages with well cultivated fields. The trail is generally downhill for the first day but day two starts with a long hard climb to Namche, a surprisingly large town where even Illy coffee and a chocolate brownie are found.

Crossing the suspension bridges that span the Dudh Koshi river, you climb to Tengboche with its incredible monastery set against the backdrop of Ama Dablam, Everest and Lohtse. Next stop is Pheriche and then after a few more days you arrive in Gorak Shep the last stop before Everest Base Camp.

A short climb to the top of Kala Pattar (5545m) for a breath-taking view of the highest mountain on Earth. You then descend again to Dingboche and over the next three days retrace your steps to Lukla to relax and celebrate.
Day 1 DAY 1: ARRIVE KATHMANDU 3 Star Hotel

Elevation: 2800m – 2656m
The flight from Kathmandu to Lukla takes 45 minutes and is an adventure in itself with great views of the Everest region (from the left of the plane) and ending with a hair-raising landing on a steep mountain runway. After meeting your crew, you will start your trek by heading up the Dudh Koshi Valley on a well- marked trail to Phakding.

Day 3 DAY 3: TREK TO NAMCHE Guest house

Elevation: 2656m – 3450m
From Phakding, you cross and re-cross the river on high suspension bridges. Beyond Monjo is the entrance to the Sagarmatha National Park. You then take a steep hike to Namche. If the weather is clear, you get the first glimpse of Mt Everest. Namche is the main trading village in the Khumbu and you can enjoy an Illy coffee and amazing brownies here!

Elevation: 3450m – 3880m – 3450m
Namche is tucked away between two ridges and has lots of lodges, tea shops and souvenir shops to explore. Today you will trek up to the Everest View Hotel at 3880m for your first view of Ama Dablam and Mount Everest and also to help with your acclimatisation.

Day 5 DAY 5: TREK TO TENGBOCHE Guest house

Elevation: 3450m- 3867m
From Namche, the trail contours on to the side of the valley, high above the Dudh Koshi. You will get great views of Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse and Ama Dablam. Passing by several villages and numerous tea shops, you descend steeply to a bridge over the river at Phunki Tenga. The village is an ideal stopover for lunch. Here you can rest before making the steep climb to Tengboche, famous for its legendary monastery, the largest in the Khumbu.

Day 6 DAY 6: TREK TO PHERICHE Guest house

Elevation: 3867m – 4252m
You descend through a forest, cross the Imja Khola and climb steadily to the village of Pangboche. This village is directly opposite Ama Dablam (6856m), and has exceptional views of the mountain, the gompa, mani walls and scattered pine trees. A further two hours walk brings you to Pheriche.

Elevation: 4252m
A day for rest and acclimatisation. You also have an opportunity to wander up the valley to look at the Tshola Tsho lake and the perpendicular walls of Cholatse and Tawache. Your guide will take you up onto the ridge overlooking Dingboche for the view of the Imja Valley and the incredible south face of Lhotse.

Day 8 DAY 8: TREK TO LOBUCHE Guest house

Elevation: 4252m – 4930m
You continue up the wide valley beneath the impressive peaks of Cholatse and Tawache on the left. You then turn right and take a steep climb towards the foot of the Khumbu Glacier. The tea house at Duglha is a good spot to have lunch. The trail zigzags up through the boulders of the glacier’s terminal moraine. At the top of this climb there are many stone cairns, built as memorials to the many Sherpas who have died while climbing Mt Everest. The path then climbs gently along the glacier, to eventually reach Lobuche

Elevation: 4930m – 5357m
To reach your next stop, Kala Pattar, you follow the Khumbu Glacier. The trail offers superb views of the surrounding mountains, especially where the path is forced to rise to cross a tributary glacier. You stop for lunch at Gorak Shep before finally making your way to base camp itself (5364m) This takes several hours as the trail weaves its way through ice pinnacles and past the crevasses of the Khumbu Glacier. On the return leg, you can take a higher route to get a spectacular view of the Khumbu icefall and the route to the South Col.

Elevation: 5444m – 4410m
A very early start is required to reach the top of Kala Pattar (5554m) for one of the best viewpoints in the Himalaya. From here you can see the face of Everest and deep into the Khumbu icefield. After lunch you then descend to Dingboche for the night.

Day 11 DAY 11: TREK TO NAMCHE Guest house

Elevation: 4410m – 3450m
From Dingboche you drop down again to follow the river. After crossing it you climb back up through birch and rhododendron forest back to Tengboche. From Tengboche you descend over the Dudh Koshi before making your way back to Namche.

Day 12 DAY 12: TREK TO LUKLA Guest house

Elevation: 3450m – 2800m
Your final day’s trekking follows the Dudh Koshi back down to Lukla. This last evening in the mountains is the ideal opportunity for a farewell party with the Sherpa guides and porters, where you can sample some chang, try Sherpa dancing and look back on a memorable trekking experience.

Day 13 DAY 13: FLY TO KATHMANDU 3 Star Hotel

After an early breakfast, you will head to the airstrip for your return journey to Kathmandu. Later, you have free time to explore. You stay overnight in a hotel in Kathmandu.

“Thank you Kandoo Adventures for a fantastic experience in Nepal.

Tony and I have just returned from Trekking to Everest Base Camp via the stunning Gokyo Lakes and Chola Pass, from the moment we were met by the Kandoo team in Kathmandu we felt we were in safe professional hands. We were privileged to have wonderful guides Pimba , a twice times Everest summiteer,Dorchi, Hira and Dukchung who all have a wealth of mountaineering and trekking experience, they took care of our every needs ,always smiling and unfailingly helpful. Their knowledge of the mountains and the history of the area enhanced our experience. The route we took was truly wonderful starting with tree lined gorges and memorable bridges with tantalizing views of Everest and Ama Dablam,we stayed in remote mountain villages where the way of life for the locals looked impossibly hard. We then reached the more barren areas above the tree line as we became surrounded by beautiful mountains on all sides.

Unfortunately I developed a chest infection ,again the care I received was outstanding, we were guided to a medical clinic where I could see a Doctor and receive treatment ,then after 3 days I was able to resume our trek towards Everest Base Camp, without Hira's wonderful lead I am not sure I would have made it ! Kandoo are incredibly well organised their daily medical checks of O2 saturation and pulse measurements ,as well as questions pertinent to symptoms of altitude sickness ensure that the health of their clients in this harsh environment is monitored, our gradual ascent and careful pacing by our guides also ensured that nobody in the group had any problems with the altitude sickness. Overall it was a real holiday of a lifetime ,we cannot thank the wonderful team of guides and porters enough. Thank you also to Paul and Jane Deakin who have created this fabulous company they have much to be proud of. We are already planning 2 more adventures with Kandoo ,we can't wait! Our very best wishes to Dukchung for his climb of K2 ,stay safe.

“Yet another amazing adventure with Kandoo!

We just recently completed the Everest Base Camp trek and from start to finish it was Kandoo at its finest! From the warm welcome at the airport, at the relaxing comfortable hotel in the heart of lively Thamel Kathmandu, and all along the whole wonderful trek to EBC, the team was remarkable. Willing to help us with anything, always had smiles on their faces, had our health and well-being as top priority and made us laugh all the way.
The guides were friendly, knowledgeable, patient and professional, and made us feel like one big family all working towards our EBC goal. The porters also helped make things much more comfortable for us and were a big part in making the trek a success.

I don’t know how they do it, but Kandoo manages to assemble the finest, most hardworking, attentive and considerate people as part of their trekking teams. It makes an already out-of-the ordinary trip into something extraordinary! We also climbed Mt Kilimanjaro with Kandoo in 2015 and it was the same amazing experience. Very professional, caring and experienced team, that made our trek a brilliant success! Kudos also to the staff in the UK, who make planning and prepping for the trip exciting and stress-free! It was a pleasure working with them. We would very highly recommend Kandoo to anyone planning a trekking trip. You will not be disappointed!

Thank-you Kandoo for helping us fall in love with Nepal and the Himalayas. We hope to trek with you again!”

“Fantastic Service and an unforgettable experience!! We are not seasoned trekkers or fitness super stars. We chose a private expedition to Base Camp using the Classic Route, we had some extra time available so extended the trek and took a few extra days to reach Base Camp. The team were fantastic at fitting the extra days in and never got frustrated with our pace. There were very knowledgeable about the area and weather conditions. Really recommend using these guide and the service from the team in the UK was excellent! The Facebook updates were fantastic for family and friends to keep track of our adventure.”
Amazing and faultless once again!

“We have just got back from a trek with Kandoo to Everest Base Camp. We have been with Kandoo before when we climbed Mt Kilimanjaro last year. On both trips, Kandoo have been absolutely amazing. They really have been faultless and have been a pleasure to deal with to book these trips. On our last trip to EBC, we were picked up promptly from the airport by their representative, taken to the hotel and looked after extremely well until we were dropped back off there again for our flight home. The guides used in Nepal were fantastic. They are extremely experienced, knowledgeable about the mountains and their country, friendly, caring and do more than is necessary to make sure you are safe, well and happy. I would highly recommend using this company to book any adventure trip, we have not had a single issue and hope to use them again in the future for our next adventure. I would not shop around for any other company.

Thanks again Kandoo for 2 of the best experiences we've ever had and would love to climb with you again one day!
