Are you seeking a new adventure? This day tour takes you off the coast of the Yucatan Peninsula to go swimming with the largest shark in the world: the whale shark!
It would've been nice to receive a final confirmation e-mail the day prior, as this trip leaves at 4am and we basically got up *hoping* they would come to pick us up (which they did precisely on time).
My girlfriend was very ill that day due to foodpoisoning and the driver did everything he could to help, including making a small detour to drop us at the hotel in Palenque before driving to the ruins. I later took a taxi, where he was waiting with the money for my entrance. Very much appreciated and great service.”
We didn't visit a cave, as was mentioned and I was under the impression we would visit the lakes by ourselves by spending some free hours there, but instead we were driven around from one lake to the other. This isn't a bad thing, as we got to see way more than expected, but it would've been nice to know how the day was going to go in advance.”
Departure will be around 8:00 am on a boat because you will be taken out in search of these huge surface-skimming creatures and be given the opportunity to swim alongside them! Get into the ocean with one of our experienced guides, who swims with 2 people at a time and keeps you company while you swim with the giant-but-gentle and vegetarian whale sharks. If you are lucky, you might see dolphins, giant manta rays, and other marine species while you enjoy a scenic boat ride in the calm turquoise waters of the Caribbean Sea.
Did you know that this impressive animals can measure up to 18 meters in length? Whale sharks are docile and younger ones are gentle and can play with divers. This species prefers warm surface water, or those areas where there are cooler water springs rich in nutrients, since these conditions favor the growth of the plankton on which it feeds. That is one of the reasons why there are so many individuals in the waters of Isla Mujeres during the summer.
