“I walked Mt Rinjani in 2009 with my daughter when it was erupting andit was just so exciting. This time we were caught in a gail dust stormand it was hard but so well handled by our guides. The views arefantastic and swimming in the lake and hot springs was such a treat. It is a great walk to do!”

“From beginning to end, starting with your excellent communication and organisation right up until my departure date, everything was arranged with ease and efficiency from your end. and the experience on Lombok did not disappoint. In fact, it exceeded all my expectations in terms of adventure, excitement, beauty, friendships forged and memories made. I would like to make special mention of the delightful and devoted Lombok locals on the ground who made our trip so much fun and so carefree. They all went above and beyond their duty to make us feel comfortable, safe, welcome, relaxed and very special. ERNAWAN - our lovely, humble tour leader, driver and fixer for whom nothing was too much trouble. He drove us everywhere with care and precision and passed on all his knowledge about his culture and country. He went out of his way to make everything just perfect for us. SAR - our cheerful mountain guide on Mt Rinjani who smiled all day, every day, non-stop. We had so much fun and so many laughs. he helped us make informed decisions about our progress and plans and encouraged us every step of the way. he truly believed that we could do it (the climb) and passed on this motivation with a wisdom way beyond his years. he made sure all arrangements were carried out without fuss and communicated this to his friends, the porters. Sar's enthusiasm and vitality was infectious. He was the driving force behind our successful bid for the summit and I will always remember his kindness and the joy he shares with everyone on the mountain as he goes about his work. TUTTI - Sar's uncle and trekking leader/organiser. He knew just what we needed and his years of experience showed through. His staff and family are a credit to him. REPAL - our quiet, devout porter who did absolutely everything humanly possible to make us feel warm and comfortable. from cooking, preparing our camp gear and setting up great camping spots...Repal was a true gentleman. He was incredibly strong but also gentle and calm. DENIS - our other happy porter who carried all our gear as if it was a feather! I really enjoyed every meal he and Repal prepared. Despite the language barrier, we shared lots of laughs and smiles around the campsite andfireside. Sar, Repal and Denis were a mighty team and we couldn't have done any of this without their support and passion for their precious mountain village and home. It was a privilege to share the pride they have in their lovely corner of Lombok. Terima kasih, you are all great people with good hearts. Please pass on our sincere gratitude to your team and to our Lombok family for making this a very special week that will remain with me forever. I would not hesitate to recommend this trip and World Expeditions to any prospective traveller. This was my first time on an organised tour and I hope it will not be my last!”

“We went in a 15night Java and Bali trip.It was a very well organised tour and it all went to plan. Having a personal assistant was very helpful and Ullya answered her calls even out of hours. The only negative comment is that they have booked 2 rooms instead of family room and it was difficult for us to sort it out in last minute.”

Indonesia - Tour Highlights and Travel Tips

When a country has as many as 17000 islands and 300 languages, it is bound to feel confusing and mysterious, yet full of adventure. Indonesia is one of the best places to venture off the beaten path, explore vast landmasses that have been literally untouched by mankind, become a part of scuba diving, hiking and jungle trekking tours and enjoy attractions such as gorgeous beaches, coral cays and unique species of wildlife.

Indonesia is famous as one of the most tectonically active nations on the planet. In other words, it is full of all kinds of volcanoes, nature’s weapons of destruction that also offer spectacular travel experiences. But it’s not all about volcanoes. Indonesia is also home to some of the most scintillating beaches and dramatic locales.

Tour Highlights

  • Visit the dragons on Komodo Island
  • Hike to the crater of Mount Bromo
  • Find peace and ocean views at Pura Tanah Lot temple
  • Explore Borobudur, the world’s largest Buddhist temple
  • Find orangutans in the jungles of Sumatra
  • Catch a wave on Kuta beach

Travel Tips

  • Indonesia is a big country made up of several large islands. A drive across Sumatra, the country’s largest island, will take you around 50 hours. Investigate domestic flights instead, and plan ahead to make sure you see all the sites at the top of your bucket list.
  • Left handers be wary: using your left hand is reserved for using the bathroom in Indonesia. It is considered rude to eat, shake hands, or pass items with your left hand.
  • Don’t make the mistake of sticking to Bali. While Bali has much to offer, visiting other islands will surely give you the full Indonesia experience. Climb volcanos on Lombok, visit the capital city of Jakarta and relax on the beaches of the Gili Islands.
  • A sarong will be your best friend when temple hopping, no matter whether you’re a man or a woman. Both sexes are expected to cover up when entering temples and other holy sites.
  • Looking for a cheap snack between meals? Try krupuk! Sold on nearly every street corner, this tasty snack is made of deep-fried rice sugar.

Indonesia has seasonal weather so please do check up on the best time to visit Indonesia before planning your tour. If you’re still hunting for more things to do in Indonesia and places to explore in Indonesia , do check out our Indonesia Travel Guide for more information.
