“This trip covers two of the three main touring areas of Guatemala, the highlands in the south and the Peten area (Mayan sites) in the north. It is run by World Expedition's local partners, with a high standard in vehicles, drivers and guides. The highlands segment (6 days) was excellent - the itinerary is varied and includes some very interesting places not commonly covered on other tours in this area. There is also a good amount of free time in lovely Antigua, so that you can fit in the Pacaya volcano trip (half day, either morning or afternoon) as an option. The Peten section was executed by another one of WE's local partners and it visits the fabulous Mayan sites of Tikal and Yaxha. We were not so impressed with the third site, Ceibal. Accommodation standard is generally very good, and the Barcelo in Guatemala is a lovely base, the Hotel Camino Real Tikal in Peten, is a lovely resort hotel and convenient to Tikal and Yaxha, but 40 minutes from Flores.”
