Guy, our tour guide was fantastic. I was supposed to take this trip multiple times before and during COVID but due to government restrictions in Australia and New Zealand I wasn't able to take the trip straught away. Topdeck was very helpful with this and made it hastle free even with the confusion and cancellations. The Topdeck app needs serious improvement but served its purpose to get us in touch until we were able to make group chats on other platforms. The itinerary was not up to date so my budget was thrown off, there was no wifi or charging ports on the bus, and some of the accommodation was questionable. Nomads in Wellington in particular🤢 But the group, guide and sights mafe up for it.

We thoroughly enjoyed (almost) every aspect of our Alps To Ocean tour. Being fully supported made it easy to enjoy the cycling, scenery and adventure. Our guides/hosts, Elder and Ellie, were professional, organised and friendly. We appreciated their work to make this trip exceptional for us. The trail was good, but some parts were a bit rough and caused some discomfort - but that's to be expected after the rough weather as well as the fires that touched the trails a few weeks before we rode it. Pretty much 90% of the trail ride was excellent, with great surfaces and tailwinds once we left the mountains. Each day had its joys...usually, the greatest joy was getting off the bike seat at the end...but the scenery was stunning. The accommodation was great and the amenities met our needs. Being fully supported took away so much of the hassle of organising bag transfers and meals. We enjoyed getting to know our fellow cycle tourers and guides over the time we travelled together. I definitely recommend the Whanui tour to anyone who wants an adventure and has a reasonable amount of cycle fitness.

The 'Alps to Ocean' ride with Ellie and Elder was magic. Just when you thought you had seen the tour highlight, you'd turn a corner, and there would be another amazing view or cool trail to ride. Our guides were exceptional. They took care of every detail, from cooking superb meals to keeping us safe on the trails and ensuring the smooth running of the bikes (even cleaning them one night!) While most people now seem to hire ebikes, this ride is doable if you train for it - there are hills. But you are never pressured, Elder quietly sat at the back of the pack, and let me climb the hills at my speed. I totally recommend this tour, and Ellie and Elder!
