Everest Region - Renjo la, kongma la, cho la pass - difficulty

Posted by in Treks in Nepal 2014-05-15 04:39:13

I am coming to Nepal this October for trekking. I am currently checking treks and think the Everest 3 passes trek sounds best. But, can someone inform me how hard the 3 passes are?

Also, do they require any camping equipment? It sounds like Renjo la is more remote?

Hoping for your input.

    Hi Sine Henriksen,

Indeed, the three passes trek is great to do in terms of its spectacular landscapes. All three passes are above 5000meters so obviously its not too easy because of its elevation. We can say that the Renjo la and Cho la are more comfortable than the Kongma la. We do not require serious climbing gears crossing Kongma la but bring own ropes, ice axe etc is recommended. Besides this, Renjo la and Cho la can be crossed easily. So, We graded this trek as strenuous trek, it is not easy but possible to make if you are physically fit and have stamina to do it.

Regarding the camping equipment, these three passes trek these days can be done as tea house style so camping equipment is not necessary but your own sleeping bag for the trek is recommended.

Guys, thank you very much for the feedback. Perfect!

I will get some rope in place for the Kong Ma la pass.

    Kind Regards
